I purchased one of these exact models a few weeks ago. I have many high end guitars but this is fast becoming one of my very favorites. This video was one of several that inspired me to get one. Thanks!

Hi Doug - thanks for the encouraging comment. When I was playing live they were 3 and 4 set gigs, and my arthritis reached the point where I couldn't do those anymore. I still enjoy playing when (and what) I can, but I never know on any given day if I'll be able to play or not, so I can't commit to a gig schedule. But thanks for watching! Cheers

Ever consider putting flat wound jazz strings for a wounded G? I do that for my 1st gen acoustasonic Stratocaster. When I don’t throw on 11 acoustics on em. Can’t wait for my t5z to arrive. Great jam!
@CurtSmithGuitar4 жыл бұрын
Hey Rafael - thanks for the suggestion, but I've never been a fan of flat wound strings - even on my jazz boxes. But they might sound quite good an a T5z - it's a very bright guitar. I've been pretty much addicted to Elixir Nanoweb strings for several years now. Very impressed with your music - hope you enjoy your T5z. Cheers :-)

Very well played. I'm considering on of those guitars and you've helped push me a little closer. I use the Apollo Twin too - it's a great little device.
@CurtSmithGuitar7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Cams - it really is a very versatile guitar. I've also had a couple of the original T5 models - and they're worth checking out as well. Cheers
@CamsCampbell7 жыл бұрын
So as an acoustic player, would you go with the T5 or T5z? I don't have much experience with electric and play a lot of acoustic gigs. The idea is to have something that I can switch to electric for playing lead over my own looped acoustic rhythm.
@CurtSmithGuitar7 жыл бұрын
It really depends on your neck profile preference. The pickup systems are very similar, but the Z is much smaller (body) and has a pretty thin neck profile. Acoustically, I prefer the T5 - the Z is very thin sounding acoustically. But they both use the Taylor neck shim system, so you can remove the neck and add or remove shims to achieve the neck set angle you prefer - which for me is a major thing. If you have the chance, you should spend a bit of time playing both models.
@CamsCampbell7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Curtis. I'll take a trip to a guitar store in Glasgow and see if I can try both models. You've been most helpful!

Thanks for this and for explaining which of the 5 positions you were using. I bought an ex-demo T5z Cocobolo from Guitar Village and that first position arrangement never worked so it's gone to a Guitar Repair Workshop near Manchester (in PMT) to be sorted. The tones you get are exactly the ones I want for the acoustic side of the T5z ... the other 4 positions are electric but that 1st position should sound exactly like this. Great job.
@CurtSmithGuitar4 жыл бұрын
HI Alan - sorry I didn't reply to this - for some reason I missed it. Frankly I never used anything but the first two positions because it's really the acoustic tones I bought it for, and even the second position (humbucker only) has a nice acoustic guitar quality to it. (Also love the fact that it's so small and light - makes a great travel guitar! :-) Cheers

@@CurtSmithGuitar Thanks Curtis. The Guitar Repair Workshop did the job that Guitar Village should have done in the first place and my T5z now sounds amazing. Many thanks.

@@alansturgess1324 Hi, what did they fix ?
@alansturgess13244 жыл бұрын
@@robdonell9915 The acoustic-only pickup just behind the bridge. The failure of that to work should have been found by Guitar Village but it wasn't. The GRW at PMT were superb. Incidentally, I just bought a small Ammoon 15w Acoustic Guitar Amp for use with my GS Mini but have found that it works perfectly with the acoustic side of the T5z ... even better than a Yamaha YHR5A on which only one setting works with position 1 on the T5z. I don't use overdrive or distortion so it's great to have a single amp which can do everything I want when I'm practising.

Wonderfully done ! I’m a total beginner at 62 yrs old with shorter fingers. With your expertise I love the T5z but I’m also considering a Taylor 412ce-r. What would you consider being an easier guitar to learn on with my finger length ect. I value your input. You are such a gifted talent sir. My music taste is the type your playing here.
@CurtSmithGuitar3 жыл бұрын
Hi David - thanks for the kind words. The T5z has a really comfortable neck profile for me, but everyone has different preferences in terms of that. So my suggestion is to spend some time in music stores playing lots of different guitars until you find something that feels really good. Generally, with short fingers you want to concentrate on shorter scale length models. But playability is also affected by neck thickness, width, and radius - in addition to scale length. The T5z is a 24 7/8" scale length - which is shorter than a lot of acoustic guitars, which are often 25 1/2". But it's all in the feel mate - hit lots of stores and play lots of guitars. Cheers - and thanks for listening!

Beautiful performance. Thank you for sharing this. BTW why did you opt to use the Boss Preamp rather than just go into the Hi-Z or Line In on the Apollo? Does it offer a better sound than just direct in? I have an Apollo and a T5, and I'd love to know if maybe I'm missing out by not using a Preamp pedal!
@CurtSmithGuitar4 жыл бұрын
Thanks - and my pleasure - but all the credit goes to Tommy for writing such a stunningly beautiful piece of music. Regarding the Boss pedal, you can definitely get a great sound going directly from the T5 in to the Apollo. What I found with that Boss acoustic guitar preamp is that it added a lot of depth that I just couldn’t get from the thin-body T5. If you have the opportunity to demo that pedal and experiment with it, I highly recommend doing so. it’s an amazing pedal in my opinion.

Hi - this was 3 years ago, and I thought I responded, but it has suddenly started popping up. 🧐 The acoustic sound of that guitar was pretty much what you’d expect from a thinline. It’s the combination of the dual pickup system that makes it special - but it’s fine for practice or noodling.

Great, very tasteful playing. What strings are you using? Brand, gauge, and acoustic or electric strings?
