12:56 - "Some will undoubtedly be horrified by Frankenstein's Monster, no matter how nice the stitching might be, or how attractive the original body part owners were." DAYUM. That is a good line, dude. So many good ones right at the start, and then THIS gem right near the end. I enjoy the direct explaination with how it's less creature collector and more of a 'Ark/Rust with creature collector on the side.' That's exactly how it plays, and as someone who is still salty with the whole 'Buy Ark again' situation, this feels like 'We liked Ark, but let's take out basically everything that sucked and keep the good.' Palworld is every survival game with the fat trimmed off, but enough still on so you have a juicy steak on your plate, and some of the fanciest garneshes thrown in for good measure.

That might be left out deliberately to give a reason for people to use Pals that only have one or two work types. A Pal that only has e.g. watering and hauling will spend far less time task switching than a Pal with watering and crafting and hauling and planting etc etc etc. I think making single task assignment more reliable, and having the ability to turn off certain structures you don't want used, would be enough.

Never liked a single survival game except Subnautica. Palworld works hard on making sure you can automate what you don't want to do. Wanna start immediately without crafting base? Sure, up until lvl ~15 you can just go around and the map provides "pokebals" as treasure chests and just laying on the ground. Then come back and make a selfsustanable base (around ~40 min of basebuilding work) and leave again until lvl 25. At that point, you will probably need to invest some time in second base and iron production for armor, but afterwards you are again free to go until lvl 35. At that point it's hard to catch things with just map drops, so might need to put few hours in better pokeball production. But it's like 15h in game before that is needed.

For an Early Access game, Palworld is surprisingly dense with content. I was amazed to see how large the world is, and it doesn't feel empty at all. I think I might try a "no flying mount" challenge at some point. I hope to see the devs flesh out the story/questing part of the game, maybe introduce some named NPCs with personality. I feel that would go a long way towards rounding out the world. There are villages and friendly encampments but they're very bare bones at the moment. I'm still a ways out from finishing the game's content, and I'm very happy with my purchase so far. Palworld is great!

Already doing a no flying mount challenge, but it was more because I wanted to take my time. The people in playing in my server with question me about it. You'll soon learn transversal tricks like siding down hills to launch yourself on your glider, your grapple gun will be your best friend and get your stamina up to climb and find safe footholds to regain said stamina. It's fun and I think I explored even more than some of those with flying mounts just for the adventure.

Thanks for diving so deep into the game before putting something out about it. There are a lot of folks doing one or 2 hours and then giving their take on it as if a few hours is enough time to gauge any survival game. Those of us that play this genre know that a few dozen hours is often just enough to scratch the surface. My biggest take away is how impressed I am at how much content and how many of the systems in this game actually work considering it just released into early access. There have been so many survival crafting games that would consider the current state of this game a finished product, not that I do, just pointing out that in this genre, this game really is punching well above it's weight.

Im fairly certain that with the meticulous detail of the world, that the past 3 years of development have been squarely focused on making the world itself. The map shows a lot of care and effort and I can see the logic behind having an engaging world up front and filling in the minutiae later on down the line

Frost after 60 hours: "Alright, finished the game." Me after 60 hours, still running around the entry islands with adhd, chasing after every pal I see with pal spheres in one hand and a baseball bat in another to completely fill out the Paldeck: "Huh wha?"

The only reason I'm not quite ready to jump into Palworld is that this is the publishers/developers 3rd game in early access currently. Now I'm not a conspiracy mind chap who thinks everything is a scam, but maybe Pocketpair should finish their other open world sandbox creative game before starting a new one. The people that paid money for Craftopia would probably feel better about their purchase if the dev wasn't chasing the next big thing.

They made a second team to work on Craftopia while their primary focus is on Palworld. It seems to me that Craftopia was a stepping stone that helped made Palworld come to fruition

This is 100% the biggest issue with the game, and it's pretty frustrating to not hear anyone talk about it. The only thing that sets my mind at ease a little bit is that a community manager mentioned that a different team worked on Palworld, and right before Palworld's release, Craftopia received a roadmap. If Palworld's success can make both games make it to the finish line, then we're all good. Will it? I don't know, but it warrants serious criticism that nobody seems to give.

Craftopia just got a patch 5 days ago. That said, I already feel like I got my moneys worth of gameplay from craftopia, and palworld does everything craftopia did just better. It feels more like a sequel really. I already feel like I've almost got my moneys worth for palworld. I've got 50hrs of fun out of a $23(on sale) game. 50c and hour for fun with friends on a server exploring and goofing off is pretty good.

So, frost is the first content creator to aknowledge the heavy ark:survival influences that im aware of...
@AstralDragn
@AstralDragn 11 ай бұрын
Other than being able to ride on the creatures, what exactly is specifically ARK:Survival? Guns are in several survival games, and so is basebuilding, so aside from being able to ride creatures I really don't see it. With no real 'taming' mechanic the creatures don't really behave the same way either.

@AstralDragn
@AstralDragn 11 ай бұрын
@@krishanson1864 I'd be reluctant to call the resource collection 'ARK Inspired' and while fixed respawn points might be a good point theres the fact that its just a requirement for a handmade world. Theres a decent number of games that have a similar inventory layout but the tech is a good point that I forgot about, even if personally I don't think the tech tree mechanic is actually groundbreaking in any way and was mainly designed to gate things off while games like ark developed.
