I purchased the smaller Grill. I love it for 4 hot doges. The smaller one doesn’t draft well, as the ashes slow the fire down. I purchased this grill for Portable RV camp cooking.

Thanks for the comment. I believe that the build up of ashes does impact a large number of fire pits and grills but it might be worth reaching out to the company and ask if they have seen this and have any solutions. I did this with another company and they were very helpful.

Comment about the heat not being centered on the grill plate. True when on the lowest slot. However, as you raise the plate in the slots the center of the heat gets closer to the middle of the plate. Think I will try one.

Good review. I think that the grill is hotter in the back gives you more control over cooking. When cooking on coals, its good to have a hot side and a cooler side so you can move food around if some are cooking faster.

Did you season the entire unit or just cooking element and skewers?
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 3 жыл бұрын
I did the entire unit to provide a level of rust protection and I wipe it down with oil after use.

How do u think one would function as a portable wood burning stove.?
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 2 жыл бұрын
To be honest I think it is a nice little grill and works well for that but as a stove (and by this I assume you mean cooking with pans) I think there are better. On the Ember for example the cooking surface is 8 inches deep. That may work for a six inch pan but if you think about how a pan is measured an 8 inch pan is 8 inches at the top, the cooking surface is smaller (there may be some exceptions). Given that the edge of the pan would be forced to sit agains the back plate it would force the cooking surface toward the front of the grill, meaning there would be different heat zones. Could you make it work if you wanted to carry only one cooking device-certainly but for a stove I would prefer the Firebox or perhaps the Solo Stoves (amongst others) that are designed to be stoves if you are looking for biomass stove.

@@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 sorry i meant as a fire pit... how do u think it would hold up as mainly used as a small portable fire box/ pit.
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 2 жыл бұрын
@@themanonthemove9984 I think it would hold up fine but I do think there are better choices if you are looking strictly for a small fire pit such as this firesideoutdoor.com/products/trailblazer?_atid=fxO62CmNHSBrqnW9z3LHgCYMN6iyRw or www.moosejaw.com/product/primus-kamoto-openfire-pit_10342705?ad_id=BingPLA&BingPLA&PLA&Primus&cm_mmc=PLA-_-MSN-_-MJ-Shopping-NonPromo-Brand-Generic%7CMJ-Shopping-NonPromo-Brand-Generic-_-google%7C384833021%7C1299622994817700%7C%7Cpla-4584826053584030%7Cc%7C%7C3648691&msclkid=937ac929c769130d3312ab364ba3c905

How exactly do you season it? Just let me a cast iron skillet?
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question-yes just like a cast iron or carbon steel skillet. Very think coat of oil baked at 425 F for an hour. I repeated the process 3 or 4 times (can't remember) before I cooked on it.

how did you season your otzi I have one comming and curious
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 2 жыл бұрын
I washed and dried it then put in a 225 oven for 15 minutes to completely dry. Take it out and wipe a VERY thin layer of cooking oil (I used Canola). Put back in oven and turn to 425 and cook for 1 hour. Let cool in the oven. I did this three times. Some will come off and the cooking surface will mottle but I just coat it will oil again before I put it away.

Do you find now the carbon steel is starting to rust or is it holding up?
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 2 жыл бұрын
I have not experienced any rust on mine at this point but as I mentioned in the video I did season it multiple rounds before I used it and I do oil it every time before I put it away. This is like a cast iron pan or any other carbon steel pan and they will rust if not taken care of. If you live in a very humid environment the stainless might be easier to live with.

I've made a few on my cnc plasma cutter and it is best to put cooking oil on all the pieces then bake them in the oven for an hour. Like Dickin said just keep the oil up on them or just go stainless if you can. Your welcome to look at my channel to see the ones i have made. Sorry i don't sell them but i gave one to my brother and the postage cost $240. Thailand to Australia "what a killer" Here's the link of the one i did for him kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3KaqWBmja2Zl6c
