If you think public transit in Ireland is expensive you'll find it's dearer in England and the wider UK generally.

Because I am a bit lazy, how about drawing a map on the back of a paper napkin/serviette/beer mat of the country you are visiting and then showing us where you are on the map? Oh go on ... you know you want to!

Susan Dorrington Let me whip out a piece of paper and pen and take some notes! That's a brilliant idea - I mean, I can't make any promises said maps will be legibile, but we've been meaning to improve our artistic skills anyway 😏

i wanna move to ireland, do you think its still worth it ? Im professional in the tech area. And im from Portugal ! :)
@mikeahern39993 жыл бұрын
Don't go to Dublin, it's expensive, accommodation very expensive, choose one of the smaller cities Cork, or Galway would be ideal. There are good well-paid jobs in tech. Ireland would be more expensive than Portugal, but wages would be higher. Climate is much more temperate, we don't get any extremes, no crazy highs or lows and it doesn't rain all the time as everybody says. Food is incredible and our tap water is drinkable. No matter where you are in Ireland you are never more than 100 km from the sea, Dublin is on the sea, Cork and Galway are on the ocean .Portugal and it's people are very similar to Ireland, Police are not armed, it's a relatively safe country. There is much to see and do.

A really good option is go-car, you basically sign up on the app. Then when you need to travel it's €9 per hour for the car. The app tells you where the nearest car is and opens the door. Saves on public transport and the best thing is go-car parking is free.

Really good observations and advice given by the both of you on your visit to the R of I, thank you. It never ceases to amaze me that so many Northern Europeans speak beautiful fluent English way better than a lot of the folk of English speaking nations from around the world?? Especially me !!! 🤔

You mentioned 8 or 9 euro cost from Shannon airport to Limerick City .Generally transport to and from Airports is more than normal .You mentioned the train cost as 14 euro one way from Limerick to Dublin .Generally long distance busses like Bus Eireann are cheaper than the train . Although there is too much single use plastic used ,we do have a plastic bag levy of 30 cent or so to discourage single use of plastic bags while shopping .Maybe you were lucky with the weather ,but one down side of Ireland is the amount of rainy days a year .That's why it is so green though ;-)

Every hour or so a bus leaves from the university in limerick to Dublin, €10 euro a seat and with the motorway between the two it's probably quicker than the train depending on time of day

A lot of plastic paddies in Ireland! Seriously, though Ireland was the first Country in Europe to charge for plastic bags in Supermarkets to try and get people to reuse them and reduce the amount of bags in circulation. The U.K. followed suit shortly after as did some other European countries. The Government also recently announced they were going to phase out plastic cups, straws etc. What did you think of the food in Ireland? I can recommend Co. Donegal if you are still in the country.
@TwojaysStepaway6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the insight! We do see the local governments have recycling initiatives, which is always great to see (one step at a time), but it does seem some of the local businesses don't take that advice to heart? I don't know, baby steps - the Plastic Problem is a huge burden for the whole world to overcome. But on a more positive note! We have had some of the Irish food and it is absolutely delicious. I myself am a big fan of hearty meals, like stews and pies and whatnot, so I am thinking of squeezing in a food tour while we're still here. Thank you for the recommendation of Co. Donegal, we'll try hard and plan a visit there :)
