A precision reel machined into a metal rod with a custom-designed walnut pistol grip, the Hurd Super-Caster was introduced in 1946. Made by a company that produced sophisticated and highly classified lock & key systems in WWII, these intriguing outfits were expensive for their time but still popular with fishermen. They remain sought after by collectors today. Here's a look at at the Super Caster's history and my take on whether or not the rods were actually made from surplus tank radio antennas.
