@NikeaTiber
@NikeaTiber 3 жыл бұрын
"I can make a clean boost in like 10 seconds with a single transistor." Oh hell yeah. After I had built a fuzz face and a rangemaster in high school I hacked together a clean boost with a mosfet, a couple of resistors, a 9 volt battery connector and a piece of perfboard about the size of a US penny that I found while cleaning out the physics lab at school. This all hid neatly in my strat and was my "secret sauce" for a few years. The gain was controlled via the guitars volume knob and the battery was only connected if the guitar was plugged in. I was pretty proud of myself at the time, and looking over what I just wrote I guess I still am.

I spent $1200 of my student loans on sparkly yellow Effectrode Helios tube fuzz like Gilmour used. It’s like jewelry it’s so beautiful. Since then I’ve bought & sold 3 boards of pedals, but the Helios stays as my favorite. …bc the next Helios that came up sold for like $350, so if I’m doomed to lose that much $ on it, I might as well have the pedal to show for it. Funny thing though, it also meant I kept it long enough to learn it, & it’s now my fave bc of its fuuunky fat fuzz tone.

I can't believe no one has discovered the secret to why Klons sound so good... Tone Metal. Guitar makers seek out the perfect tone woods but most pedal makers (including JHS) just slap their circuits into any old enclosure. Not so with The Mighty Klon! The atomic structure of their boxes is what totally makes this pedal worth $6000.

@@BennieTarrMusic absolutely true. And the battery type makes a difference in the Germanium fuzz pedals. Lead acid and alkaline sound different. It’s kind of weird and I didn’t believe it until I tried it. It’s not with all pedals though. Sometimes you don’t notice much of anything. And I’ve measured the voltage with a meter. When a 9v starts to dip around 7.5 -8VDC you can hear the difference. It has less of a hard edge to the fuzz. Some people feel that it’s a little more musical. Notice in the video about the Boss Tonebender that it has a voltage sag switch. It’s there for a reason.

A coffee in my town is 1,50€ For a maximum of 7,50€ a pedal, I guess all I can allow myself to purchase is a transistor and a pot to make a DIY boost... Maybe it's time to move someplace where coffee is more expensive

Great stuff, I love the negative commentary from the judges. I'm thinking of typing some of it in a search engine and seeing how many exact matches I get from guitar forums 😄

Really hard to pick a favorite part about this episode... Traxton St. Clair trying to hold back laugher every time T-Bone Drexel is speaking on the panel, T-Bone eating a Whopper when talking about the Klon, Josh saying "If you have a Klon and you use it as a boost, we're making the choice to still love you," Traxton not only wanting to not only sound good but feel superior in every possible way, the look on Addison's face at 34:48...the list could go on for days. This channel is one of the best things to ever happen to KZbin. 😂 Keep up the awesome pedal building and the awesome shows about not only yours, but other manufacturers' work!

"My poor friends listen to Radiohead." 🤣🤘🎸 P.S. With Halloween stores open, Josh really missed an awesome opportunity to rock an awful fake mustache.

Being from England, hearing it pronounced "Henley-on-Thames" hurt even though that's the logical pronunciation. Just for future reference it would be said, "Henley-on-Tems". Great video though, was a really thought provoking panel you had there :)

Always loved this episode and i came back just to say that i just bought myself a Klone. Just snagged up an alchemy modded EHX Soul Food and its wiiiiicked nice. thank you Josh for slapping it into my head that i have to turn up the gain knob for the diodes to work. (well, ngl the gain knob is all the way up and probably never coming down) but at any rate thank you very much for at least educating me before i forgoed, forwent? whatever- before i impulse buy the funny metal boxes

This is a fantastic episode. Great jams - great coverage of pedals and even better the panel. Josh did a great parochial, insular, conspiracy-loving, pedal-forum-disciple; Adison, presented the practical real world view very well; Nick channeling John Malkovich, acting as a snobby 'lawyer to the doctors' was Gold.

Addison’s face when the panel starts arguing about the Klon clone in the Boss OD200, had me ROLLING! 🤣🤣🤣 I’ve bought like 3 JHS pedals because I love this channel so much and love the originality and chemistry of everyone. Thank y’all for being one of my fav channels!

I love my Automatone MkII. I’d say it’s worth the money for sure! It replaced two overdrives and a fuzz on my pedalboard (which saved a little space). Not to mention the very useful design of the presets and visual sliding faders!
