Residents in Grindavik, Iceland are are on high-alert after thousands were evacuated when a volcano erupted. This eruption was the second in just four weeks.

The whole island is made of volcanoes. It is formed because of tectonic plates splitting apart and this will continue for millions of more years.

No, these are real problems only for those who have been pampered by a comfortable and secured life since they were born. Real problems are when you flee the war and have to move to another country, with a different language and culture, no money, no work, no status, no insurance, no rights...But having to move to a different house in your home country, with a government that's going to put additional cushions around you one way or another, is not a real problem -- it's only a mild and refreshing, cathartic event that pushes you out of your comfort zone and helps you reevaluate your priorites.

Some of the "experts" are saying this is volcano has been "long dormant" for 800 years. Geologically speaking the volcano dosed off for a second

Yeah mother earth is making new land. Some new land must of sank into the core from the Pacific plate which makes sense. We did all these earthquakes. That's just the land sinking int the core of the earth and gets melted down.

Way to spin this. They evacuated around thanksgiving and the eruption started like . This was breaking news on SATURDAY

No. They came back and had to evacuate the night before!!!

@@jeanineerickson7303 of the 4000, only around 200 were in the town the night before. I watched their local news feeds. Only 90 houses were occupied, most were fisher families, security or people doing the construction work and researchers.

I just want to state to NBC and the CEO of NBC, and all the people of the Bay Area who believed in what I was going through, that I don't apologize, but at the same time, you know what this message really means. That it's the beginning of the end, and the end of the beginning for this entire area. We could just say the U.S. if you want to be accurate, but not just the area in general of the Americas. So basically the whole Americas pretty much, not just Canada, not just North America, not just Mexico, not just South America, but this entire area is about to get the full works. And because you guys believed in me, and you had what I feel like somebodies that I care about, I'm giving you this warning so you can run before it happens.

Only thing to do is move the town. Let the whole country build new house's for everybody to move into. You have to pull together as a country. You can keep the tour stuff I guess when its safe. But nobody living there.

With all the understanding of the situation, it's kind of ridiculous how deeply impacted these people are, just because they lost a house and have to move out for good. They are not moving to another country, with another language, no money, no work, no insurance, no status, no rights....They are in their home country that cares for them a lot, and none of these people will ever go through even a droplet of what migrants and refugees normally endure. But it's understandable that when you have comfortably lived in one place all your life and have never known what real problems are, then the worst day of your life will be when the insurance will not pay you your house, so you are going to panic just because you now have to find a different solution...

A village has been evacuated because of lava burning down the houses, but let me tell you about the Blue Lagoon - a popular tourist destination! It has been closed down because of the volcano eruption! A tragedy for many who had high hopes to make a Tiktok video while twerking in the blue waters!

You do realize that destinations like the Blue Lagoon help drive in money for the small country of Iceland right? Not to mention, this is a business that people form that town and other nearby towns work at.

Depends how you define "walking distance". Most hikers can cross the country north-south in 3 weeks. Fast hikers can do it in two. The problem with the current eruption is that fissures can open up anywhere...not just on the slope of a volcanic peak.@@ak102986

First off, the region was dormant and had been for centuries. Secondly, people have lived in Iceland for a very long time. To say it is their fault is absolutely asinine. I'm going to give you a bit of a newsflash, EVERYWHERE is prone to some sort of natural disaster. Volcanoes, blizzards, hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, tsunamis, drought, wildfires, etc. There is not a single place on Earth that isn't susceptible to a natural disaster, and to blame the people simply living there is straight up heartless.
