Why would any insurance company remain in a state that burns to the ground EVERY SINGLE YEAR and the state refuses to fix the problem?
@jimbochoo331615 күн бұрын
Stop exaggerating. The state doesn't burn to the ground every year, only very very small sections of it. Pacific Palisades is just at tiny area of Los Angeles. 95% of all other homes are perfectly insurable by insurance companies and within tolerable risk. The large cities have big populations so they built homes on hills and mountains where they shouldn't have. That is the real problem.

One important point was missed. California imposes price controls on private insurance companies. When State Farm tried to increase premiums to account for increased costs to rebuild the state stepped in. Faced with losing money, State Farm decided to eliminate a large number of homeowners policies in the most risk prone areas. I think insurance companies must give sufficient notice that a policy will not be renewed but I’m not sure how long that is. If a homeowner is dropped, they can shop among over 50 competing insurance companies for coverage.

The only thing spreading faster than the flames are the lies from Trump, FOX and some Republican politicians. - No water in fire hydrants: you need to understand physics. If water tanks are being used for 15 hours straight the refill will take longer at higher elevations. Which is what happened. It was not due to a lack of water. - No money in FEMA: funding does not come from the president but the house. Remember how republicans refused Biden’s request for more? - Not knowing where LA gets its water. It does not come from snow melting into the Bay Delta system but from the Owen’s Valley and some from the Metropolitan water district. - Regarding claim the Mayor of LA cut funding for firefighters: let’s keep it in perspective. The budget is well over $800M and the $17M cut amounts to only 2%. They are trying to insinuate that is the main problem to all of this- not that the area has not had any real rainfall for over 8 months, climate change and strong winds over 100mph. What they are doing is irresponsible, divisive and serves no beneficial purpose. I’m not surprised by their behavior it’s the same old rinse and repeat tactics. They need to be called out.

Has repeatedly happened in many other States. Where there were no floods or earthquakes for 30+ years, no issue from the insurance companies; coverage was available, no major increases or cancellations. The minute the area had a couple of floods or an earthquake or fire, the insurance companies had the same spiel: dropped policy holders, exorbitant increases in policy fee or verbiage due to "inflation" "increased costs" increased claim coverage for non insured."

The real cause of the catastrophic losses from these massive wildfires in LA -- Governor Newsom's and Mayor Bass' utter mismanagement of resources. The City of LA wanted everyone to evacuate yet not one cop to direct traffic resulting in complete gridlock. Los Angeles residents pay massive taxes yet under Newsom, the state was completely unprepared to fight massive wildfires. Fire hydrants were EMPTY because Newsom shut down 4 dams to save a fish. Newsom blocked an order that would have diverted water from the much wetter Northern CA to the heavily populated and historically much drier southern CA. Mayor Bass cut the fire dept budget by 17 million but increased spending to the homeless industrial complex -- half of which went unspent. Newsom's forest management policies were never thin the forests of dead trees from deadly beetle infestation and never remove overgrowth creating the perfect environment for an inferno. Then he flies around the state on his polluting helicopter declaring "climate change" as residents' homes burn to the ground. Third world infrastructure in one of the most heavily taxed states.

@jesserobinson749 You expect insurers to offer insurance when they expect to lose money because the cost of rebuilding and risk of wildfires has drastically risen and State law caps rate increases at a much lower level. It would be great if more companies dove head first into losing money for the people but that's a stupid expectation. The fact of the matter is it's getting much more expensive to own a home and climate change is making it much more likely to have disasters. That's the National crisis that needs to be addressed. Home insurers wanting to pass on the cost (or leaving if they can't) is just a symptom of the problem.

There's A. Lot of other systems if you're not paying for fire insurance that means you don't have that bill so why not get your own set up? Let's face it most of these people were not prepared. How are they gonna be prepared for an earthquake? Most of them don't have food past a couple of days. I always assumed thats why those neighborhoods didnt burn down. I assumed by now with all the close calls that people had drums of water, pumps and good hoses. Ive watched videos of people with tiny short hoses. When I lived in Hollywood Hills I had really nice thick long hoses. Its so sad that more than hslf of these people wont be able to move back there. 1/3 will have to leave California.
