Back in my day none of these fins existed .if you were shut down that was it until you got the problem fixed if it was a non shut down problem you had x amount of time to get it fixed or face a fine .all this new stuff is insane It does nothing good for anyone .it makes the freight price go up keeps driver pay stay low .forces many companies to raise rates an fewer pay increases of any kind .if this keeps up there will be a collapse in shipping nation wide .and this will effect all interstate and import and export That is what will happen if this type of Revenue grabbing is allowed to continue .

I just got my CDL October of this year, and I wanted to upgrade from my speinter to a semi wich i did and very proud of myself for doing so. Now that all this is going on in the trucking industry, I'm thinking of just getting back into my sprinter but keeping my CDL until things get better. The FMCSA is getting out of control. I'm not an over the road driver, but I drive for a row crop operation in Missouri. And what I see is enough to say that the FMCSA needs changed. I see majority of the truckers driving over the road are migrant drivers, whom the DOT do not bother. If they're going to raise fines cost, then they better start making things equal. They are nothing but greedy political funded people who are not for anyone but themselves. And from what I've seen, I'd say there isn't a one of these padded pocket idiots that has ever drove a semi, let alone ride in one. Common sense is gone with the FMCSA. Last but not least, thank you to you college educated jackasses that run the FMCSA for destroying this once great business. Before you go making laws and regulations, you need to learn the life on the road and see it in action. Politicians are all you are.

Someone getting an excessive fine in relation to their income would be able to dispute it and have it removed. Legally, and philosophically, they can’t just make up ridiculous amounts of money to fine you. There are juris prudence principles at work here. A fine is meant to get your attention but never to steal your entire life savings.

if the dot was truly concerned about safety they would drop the monetary fines and go to only progressive license suspension and shutting down truck and trailer for a set amount of time, that incentivises the drivers and companies to do it right. too many just pay the fine and continue to operate. if they only shut down the drivers then the companies just throw another driver into the truck, but if they shut down driver,truck, and trailer, and progressivly make the shut down longer for each violation within a set amount of time.
