I remember moo & oink did this years ago. My uncle went to work one day the store was closed and all the delivery trucks were gone. The company closed and didn’t even inform the employees that they were going out of business. A sams club in the suburbs of Illinois did it a few years ago before the pandemic. It was all over the news one day. They showed employees showing up to work just to find out that the store was permanently closed. They said they weren’t getting enough customers in order to keep the store open. I get that companies go under but these companies don’t tell the employees that they’re going under is horrible. They have to get the last bit of work out of you then have you looking for other employment. I guess if they inform you about the situation you probably find other employment before they go under. That’s messed up.

@yimb8437

@@derrynelson4637 union dues don't fund pensions there Chief. They fund union management, they might get used as a stopgap wage for strikes, and the rest usually goes to bribe Democratic politicians. My uncle was a union lead in the Midwest. He would show up at family functions with union funded beer, calendars, hats and other swag for all the extended family at pretty much every function. It was both hilarious and sad, as our booze for decades was effectively funded by hardworking blue collar workers. He is retired now though, so that nice perk eventually ended.

Yellow was only locked in a battle with the Teamsters because Yellow has consistently had terrible management. When Yellow says they were in a battle with the Teamsters, what they meant to say was that the Teamsters wouldn't cave into Yellow's attempts to further ruin the Union. Union labor is the ONLY way that workers can participate in democracy. Union labor gives workers a voice at the table when decisions about their wages, hours and working conditions affect their lives . If you believe in democracy,you believe in Union labor. Consider, you enter a contract to buy your truck, you enter a contract to finance your truck, you enter a contract to receive health care, you enter a contract to buy your home. A union contract is an agreement , entered into by equal parties, that spells out the terms of a relationship . What on Earth is wrong with that? As important as your livelihood is to your family, your community and yourself, you would refuse to have a written agreement, that YOU negotiate to protect your job?? I’ve been working since I was 8 years old, always had a paycheck . My jobs with the Teamsters were the best jobs I ever had. Being a union member helped put my children and grandchildren through college, gave them affordable and excellent medical care, maintained our home. If it wasn’t for the Teamsters, I may have ended up like a lot of other working people- no pension, no affordable medical care and no hope for the future. Union dues? For me, I was glad to carry my share and it was a snap. Hey, if NHL, MLB, NBA and NFL millionaires have and need a union, working folks definitely do.

I don’t feel bad for them. I have new coworkers from there. The union rules actually trash the company. A 6 hour route would be done in 14 hours. Nothing could be done to punish the driver. Union made a rule the company can not get a worker in trouble through electronic surveillance. A manager would need to personally drive out to where the driver is at and catch them milking time. My new coworkers even said some drivers would sell merchandise from the truck and nothing the company can do even if it’s through a camera. Cause of the no punishment through surveillance. Need to catch them red handed. Basically the employees milked the company dry through the very loose union rules. I’ve met quite a few ex employees from there and they all say it’s the easiest job to do and milk time.

Thanks to the unions demanding platinum plus health care and wages for driving a forklift in a terminal. I’m sorry but it’s hard to compete against RL Carriers paying $12 if yellow unions demand $50 an hour

Well, I do feel sorry for the workers but then they did it to themselves. Do you know that some of these forklift drivers was getting paid as much as over road truck drivers. The over road truck drivers would get a transfer to forklift/dock work and still get the same pay as truckers no bullshit… That’s one reason why they went out of business

what's the problem? paying a living wage? We gave up our eighties raises to get the (mostly female) office staff on board with the same wage rate as warehouse. you OBJECT to the sharing of the wealth?

@@sameoldthing2240 A forklift driver that knows his stuff is indeed worth a truck drivers' pay; we gave one kid his big chance and he ran over the other lift drivers foot, turning it completely around. both drivers can get you killed. what's that worth???

@@HeronPoint2021 well that’s just stupid that you didn’t give that person the proper training before he got on the forklift. I hope the person that got ran over, sues the shit out of the kid and the company.. But that doesn’t mean that a forklift driver should make six figures a year.. Doesn’t matter if he knows his stuff. If it’s just a regular forklift, driver, unloading trailers, he doesn’t deserve six figures. If he wants six figures, he should go find another line of work.. Even truck drivers should not make six figures a year. It’s not dangerous work you’re just fucking driving… I drove a forklift and truck for over 20 years and it’s not dangerous unless you’re reckless..If you want six figures a year go own a truck and your own business

I also think many people are ignorant about economics. Our country just got down graded today because our government spends too much money. 32 trillion 600 billion. BAD! Inflation (meaning) too much money chasing fewer goods. To keep unions gouging employers to give more money and benefits to workers just chases the problem. It raises costs which is passed on to everyone else, hence they want raises and so forth. There much more but just educate yourself before blaming business.

Is there any way they could repurpose that property and resettle the asylum seekers. That would help create new jobs with the Federal Dollars being spent through community groups who feed, repair the damage, provide free daycare, continually clean up the property, and remedial education programs in the school system.

Wow, you want to waste even more money? People need jobs, we don't need more mouths to feed. The American taxpayer is spread too thin as it is. We are 32 trillion in debt and "federal dollars being spent" just increases our problems. Take an economics class.
