Thras is a small continent consisting of an island chain, Thras is to the South of Tamriel, east of Yokuda and west of the Summerset Isles(Alinor). In this video we talk about the inhabitants of Thras, the Sload and the impact that Thras and it's inhabitants have had on Tamriel as a whole.

The in game size seems symbolic. Otherwise Daggerfall (or what used to be Daggerfall) would pretty much cover all of Nirn several times.

thras is called a continent in game. he didn't just call it that because he doesn't know what one is. continents don't follow are definition in the elder scrolls. pyandonea wouldn't be a continent either

‘Our definition’ is already such a loose concept that people disagree on. Did you know the 5 Olympic rings represent the 5 inhabited continents? Even though in English there are 6 inhabited ones. And if you as some people, there are only 5 total. America, Eurasia, Africa, Australia and Antartica.

Then how would they know what a continent is? The word has been mentioned in game in books and such, so I believe they would know what a continent is, but not have the exact same definition. Perhaps a continent to them is a land mass that has its own standing race(s) and culture(s)?

The definition of continent is subjective and has ment many places over time, from the massive Afroeurasia, to the British Isles or certain Pacific island chains which are smaller than the chain seen here. The definition realy depends on your academic bias

Four corners of the earth. The four continents that made up the earth. Africa, asia, europe, and americas. Then we added australia and antartica and decided to divide america in two. The modern continents are not what has always existed, the term has changed over time. It's just a matter of how we've standardized continents as time went on. Some still think europe and asia shouldn't be divided because they're seemlessly connected through russia with no real narrow points to make a logical divide. Some disagree whether australia or oceania should be a continent. Definitions change, since much like science what arbitrary limitations we place are invented for us to more easily grasp the world. Nature doesn't care about our definitions in any of the respects we use.

@@midnightmythos I think what he’s getting at is that in the lord the Hutts are a very influential, powerful species in the sense that they are very dominant in the galaxy. Like the cartel basically. But individually they are indeed pretty frail. The sloads & hutts are actually really similar in the way, I never really thought about it. Dominating with intelligence rather than brute.

Noel The Last Dovah Duck I totally agree, the Elder Scrolls geography offers a lot of tropical/island lands and I hope a future game or add-on would dive deeper into the lore of these oceanic frontiers. So I totally agree when you say the possibilities are endless, Nirn is huge and full of mysterious unexplored regions. Great video too!

5:40 "Such acts hasn't appeared for at least an era" Isn't it a bit dumb to use "an era" as a unit of time? The eras have no set lenght, the first era was almost 3000 years long and the 3rd for just 433 years. Better would be to say "Since the x:th era" or "[Hasn't happened] in this era"

I'd personally love a game in the Mythic Era involving the Alessian Order and the Thrassian Plague, but not made by Bethesda. Instead, someone who's actually competent and good at telling a story and designing a RPG.

That used to be Bethesda. Sure, the story is still tolerable, but it all just feels the same anymore. You're a prisoner, break out, get strong and become a hero. Except for daggerfall. It was to-scale with thousands of dungeons and limitless things you can do. However you only had a certain amount of time to complete the main story. (Which wasn't so bad cause if you failed that you got to explore the rest of the game) Any way, that one you were an agent sent by Uriel to handle a plethora of urgent matters.

There's too much lore in the elder scrolls universe. There are just so many islands full of different races. I have to admit that Skyrim wasn't the best location for TES 5 in terms of lore. Skyrim is supposed to be a land frozen in time and Todd Howard literally created Scandinavia to represent Skyrim. Bethesda should choose a location that really reflects the elder scrolls series as a fantasy RPG, something unique that doesn't represent anything that we see in reality.
