I bought my Chiiiiiina sewing machine like 3 years ago I opened the box put it together and saw how 💩 it was and never touched it again until I ran across your videos. I immediately went and dug it out of the garage. I finally got the damn thing to sew about 2-3" inches worth and would bust the thread. Lol. I haven't done anything to it and after doing that it has made me want to do more. I ordered a new needle bar and dermal engraver I'm doing to try and sew with the biggest thread I can. Thanks for your very well how to do video's they could be 2 hour video's and I would still watch them don't ever think they are to long. You explain everything to detail.. keep up the video's, now I'm going to file and buff the bobbing assembly and get it ready to handle the bigger thread. If I fail I'll buy another one at 120.00 LOL. OH I heard you mention a 24 needle I couldn't find that one so, it's going to take filing and make it for the rounded needles.. thanks again for all your teachings..👍👍👍 ❤

I with a lot of folks have had trouble tearing thread on the second or third rotation. I did everything I could to make mine work and now works.! I turned the needle with round out and flat in groove, took apart all needle area and polishing the bobbin and channel the thread goes through, and aligned arm to center the needle. It’s frustrating but can be fixed!

Hi. Thanks for the videos. I don't have enough experience yet, so it's a lot to absorb. I do appreciate the guide to convert thread sizes from one chart to another. I will have to watch this more than once or twice... a Part 2 to this video showing examples and closeups of the thread in a subset of the materials you actually use and why you chose that thread (along with its needle) for that purpose would be very useful -- if you want another idea for a video. Thanks!

@@@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks thanks for sharing your experience with us newbies. I've sewn all my life and occasionally leather both by hand and a bit on my regular sewing machine, but that does not equate to enough experience to know what threads and needles to order for what leathers or fabrics. I do understand some of the issues you talked about, that they exist, like the reason for waxing the thread. So much to learn. (BTW, my machine is not up and running well yet. It'll be a bit of time before we can get to it. But I do have projects waiting, and many ideas... have to be patient, it's taken me 35 years since I first saw one of these machines to actually find one to buy! )

Just a FYI. I use a size 21, round shank 135x17 industrial sewing needle (1.75" odd long) in a 1903 made Singer 27 treadle machine with great success. No modifications required. It uses typical HAX1 and it appears anything up to 2mm shank diameter. I have even used 10G hand embroidery thread on the treadle, with no issues. The bobbin doesnt like that 1mm gauge hand embroidery thread in it though, and it much prefers a 12wt-50wt cotton thread in the bobbin, whilst it works with the massive thread and big needle. Goes through 10 layers of thin leather (1mm- 1.5mm?) and it causes me to think about whether I need this patching machine. However, I am sure this patcher will do much better with shoe soles, etc, especially when I plan to make car tyre soled sandals, etc.

I fish with braided fishing line and when I retire the line at the end of the season I keep it for hand sewing random repairs. Five or six years ago I put metal buttons on cargo pants. To this day there is zero fraying and I’ve never had to resew . Though I it is necessary to apply a drop of super glue because the nature of the line it’s slick and it will find a way to undo itself.

Just wanted to say thanks for the videos on this machine. I recently got one for myself for leather projects. I have been doing hand-stitch for all my leather stuff but recently got asked to do a guitar strap for a friend an decided to give one of these a try. Definitely a little bit of heartache...thinking I could just use the same thread I hand-stitch with...definitely too thick...haha. I'm in Maine as well! How did you ever make out on that Singer sewing machine? Someone near me was selling one but went with this Chinese one instead as it seemed like the sure fire to go through thick leather...but thought it would be cool to have an old singer in my shop that could do thick leather as well. Do you use the singer for thick leather? Thanks!

Thanks for the video. I had so much trouble finding a video where someone talks about the thread vis a vis the needle size. I’m a new quilter and bag maker, {soft bags, mostly made of cotton and batting). I have a semi industrial machine called the brother pq1500sl and it comes with hlx5 needles designed for high speed quilting machines and to sew through many layers and intersections. Some of them are titanium. I bought 30wt mercerized cotton thread for my top stitching parts and the product recommends a 12/80 needle but that sounds too small a needle in my opinion . What do you think I should use with my 30wt cotton? Thank you

Intresting video you made. Im trying to think of a way to get more thread on the crappy small bobbin on this machine. Wondering if it may even be possible to have an external roll going via the bobbin?. That would be an engineering marvel. Save tons of mucking around time with bobbin changes ect. Do you run the same size thread on your bobbin as from the top of your machine main thread?. Cause 207 + size thead even 138 will not allow for much sewing. Thats the down fall of this machine in my opinion.

I got a Chinese sewing machine and it was working perfectly fine at first UNTIL my needle snapped and I got the shmetz “leather” needles 110/18 and when I try to start stitching it won’t move foward. I wouldn't recommend one of these machine then, the heaviest thread these machine can handle is T207. Plus the large thread takes up alot of space in your already small bobbin.

Hi Thank you for the video. I ordered a few threads… but never got what I wanted. I am looking for same kind of thread that was sent with the “Chinese sowing machine” ( As I was happy with the results)… Would you have a link of where I could purchase please ? Thank you and all the best :)

I order all my thread through Amazon or eBay, just look for bonded nylon.

Does this machine take a common bobbin or is it specific to this machine?

I am not sure the name or size, but the old singer sewing machines use the same bobbin.

Hello! Watching your videos, I decided to buy one of these through ebay. The guy I bought from turned out to be a crook. He made a shipping label, but never shipped it. That was nearly a month ago. Ebay refunded my money, and I found another seller with better feedback, but now I'm gun shy. Where did you get your machine? I still want one.

I have a unit just like his that I have not used if you are interested? It does need a stud and bearing. I could fix it or you could and would be priced accordingly. I was told in these comments how to fix it, and it sounds like they knew what they are talking about. I’ve never actually used the tool other than to try it out, which is when the bearing broke. I bought an industrial sewing machine and was wondering what to do with this. Just leave a comment if you are interested. Thanks

Can someone please answer my question? Why does my thread keep breaking? When I thread my machine, it is too tight when it goes through the tension spools. How do I adjust these? I loosened them as far as they would go, but there must be another way to do this that I am not aware of.

Not on Facebook, but would like to use #277 thread, I think a #180 size 24 needle could be modified to work. Any ideas?
@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks
@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks 3 жыл бұрын
You can modify the needle bar to accept the industrial needles and make the hole in the top plate larger. Take a round file and round out the flat part on the needle driver. But then your limited on the amount of thread the bobbin can hold
@GunsmithRyther
@GunsmithRyther 3 жыл бұрын
I was thinking of modifying the needle instead of the bar. Using a dremel tool to grind the needle.

I have one that the bearing that moves the bobbin that is broken. How can I remove the old stud and where can I get a new bearing?
@mazdarattiman
@mazdarattiman 4 жыл бұрын
Stud is a bolt threaded in with the the head cut off and peened to hold bearing on. Grind the excess stud off to remove bearing. Pliers or vise grip to remove old stud as you will need to replace it. m5x.8. Bolt I believe. Bearing is a 624zz. eBay or Amazon or possibly a hardware store.

I just looked at one of your videos again. I’m threading the needle from the wrong side. I’m just not having any success with this machine. I ordered some new tension wheels. Also, when I’m threading, the eye, buy the screw is always tight. There always seems to be too much tension. I’ve loosened the tension spring, but it still seems tight. I just don’t know.

Good morning, I’m sure that you already did a video on pooping the upper thread. Can you respond with the name of the video that you did it on. Much appreciated thanks
@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks
@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks 4 жыл бұрын
If your popping the upper thread it could be a few different issues: Needle bar needs to be adjusted further down, so you can feel the tip of the needle. Bobbin timing is off, Cam timing is off, bobbin tension set too tight, not the right kind of thread... and so on. I do offer one on one video help if your interested.

Hey I just found this video. I am trying to use 270 bonded nylon thread and it will run it but it is breaking after about 3 stitches. How do I fix this?
@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks
@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks 3 жыл бұрын
My normal short answer to your question is 270 is too big. The largest thread these machines can handle is 207, so they say.... I will do some experimenting with that next weekend.

Hi, thanks for you awesome videos. I just got my machine yesterday and I had bought the T270 thread at the same time. But the machine came with size 18 needle so I could not use. Today I went and got the T135 thread from Tandy and also a size 20 needle. Unfortunately I can't get the machine going as the top thread jams up in the bobbin area between bobbin holder. so I checked the timing video of yours and set it up as you recommended, crank at 12 o'clock and bobbin carrier at 3 o'clock. still the thread jams. Then I changed to mono filament and it works fine. Any suggestions? I noticed there is hardly any gap between bobbin holder and the bobbin well wall. did you polish or grind anything in this area? BobThanks in advance.
@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks
@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks 3 жыл бұрын
The largest thread size recommended for these machines is T207, but I recommend the T138 because there is only so much room in the bobbin. Are you using a HAx1 needle shank or did you modify the needle bar? Your issue sounds like a needle bar height issue or a timing issue. Yes, I polished the bobbin case, bobbins and the bobbin well with my Dremel.
