This is so helpful. I bought an old one second hand and tried threading from pictures in the manual. I downloaded a manual online. I wasn’t able to get it to work properly but after going step by step with your video it works perfectly.

Howdy from Upper Hutt, longtime watcher, first-time commenter here. I’ve had my EA-605 in storage for decades now (I think I bought it in an op shop in South Dunedin but I don’t quite remember) and thanks to this video my “summer project” to get her working only took a hour or so. So now I guess my summer project will be to overlock everything in sight! Like other commenters I had no idea this was an overlocker + chain stitch machine, which is brilliant because after years of searching I still haven’t found a chain stitch plate for my Singer 411 slant needle machine - I haven’t found one that wouldn’t cost me hundreds of US dollars, I mean 😅. But now it turns out I had another chain-stitcher all along! A note on the three holes in the handle: I couldn’t get my overlock needle thread tension high enough for love nor money, so I rethreaded it, this time going twice through the top hook (above the spool), then through the middle hole AND then through the right hand hole on the handle before proceeding to the tension discs etc. I’m super happy with the tension now. Thanks again for the awesome video 👏.

I have just got one of these for not a lot of money at all....mint condition and hardly used, purchased in 1976. This video has been extremely helpful with the threading. It is going great and I will learn to tweak the thread. I have watched the other video. For some reason mine would do the overlock stitch but not the chain thread (even tho threaded correctly) It does what I need it to without the chain stitch but would be nice to understnd. I have the manual but from watching your video everything seems the same..........BUT I really appreciate what you share on this. Thank you.

@@amandanewman1362 hi, no. It seemed to hard for my old brain. Sometime I will put it into a repair person. Not needing or being able to live without the chain stitch could save me some money too. I don't use this much in my sewing at the momento. Keep me posted if you get yours sorted. 🙂

Very many thanks for your thoughtful video, i just bought one of these for 65 (new zealand) dollars.....what an amazing machine, i can hardly believe how very quiet it is, and so solid......superb machine. I have other, much later overlockers but this one is fast becoming my favourite of all time due to its brilliant, solid build and its the quietest machine by a very long way, one can just about say that you can "hear" the quality! zero vibration at full speed, heavy and immovable!, yes, they are ( or were) made by juki.........

Hi, Thanks so much for this video, it is awesomely clear. I have a Singer 10UJ13, which looks to be an exact clone of this machine. The internals are all nice solid metal, and she purrs along beautifully. I bought it years ago, and it took me ages off and on, even with the service manual to get it into adjustment and running nicely. I have used sewing machines all my life, but had never used a serger until this one, and had no knowledge of how the stitch was formed. This is the best clearest video that I have seen of the motion of the loopers and needles. I wish I had seen this video years ago.

Hello. Just found your video. Got a 605 and a 5180. I need to do a once over and clean. They both work great but the 5801 defiantly needs some oil. Trying to figure out where the proper places to oil and how to access seems to be a struggle when it comes to online info. I figure the 605 and the 5810 are similar enough. Are you able to do a "maintenance" video for your 605? I am sure there are others that would value such a video. Also, Thanks for this video its what made my mind up for what to get as my 1st serger. Solid build meant to last. Plus they look so cool!

One of my thread mast is broken, can you get a replacement for it?
@uphillcouchpotato4 жыл бұрын
At least now I know that I threaded it right by following the instructions inside the machine. I got one of those some time ago on goodwill but never managed to get it to work properly. I've dialed in the overlock tension to a point that it looks decent enough and the thread wont rip that often. But I cannot get the chain stitch to work. I've been trying for a few days now and am afraid that I played with too many settings at once (i.e. foot pressure, stitch length, thread tension, etc). So I have one of two things happen most of the time: either the thread slips out of the left needle or it rips after a few stitches no matter how gentle I try to push the pedal. I'd be interested in more calibration video on how to troubleshoot these issues since the information on the net seems sparse or I am searching wrong. For example what is the right height for the adjustment screw of the left needle and why does this matter? This is probably obvious for a sewing machine engineer or someone who knows what he/she is doing. Thanks for the video! @kev23 Gr: I got mine for 30$ at goodwill, but I would not recommend it as a beginner.. I'd rather get another cheap used overlocker(I did, it broke, I learned something)
@InStitches4 жыл бұрын
I'm pleased you enjoyed the video. Make sure you have the correct needle installed and replace it with a new one if possible. Make sure you have the top thread threaded correctly and the top tension should be firm and the lower tension should be relatively light. Thread the needle last, always thread looper first. Take a look at this video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/hGiYpouvmJKGmM0 - it's for a different model but may explain the fix for your issue.
