Yes, and some shelters will only allow you to adopt kittens less than 6 months old out as pairs. It’s so much easier with two kittens than with one. Even my one year old requires a lot of play time and sometimes I just need to do other things…she needs a play buddy

Adorable. I call it the crab walk (sideways). My first cat used to do that. I think it's when they feel a bit threatened and are trying to move in a way that is unpredictable. Kittens also have the amazing capacity of scaring themselves with their own shadow or reflection in mirrors.

I am probably twice your age but your soul is older and grander than mine. I had a neighbor whose cat I tended only while she was away. I'd lie on the couch (watching her cable TV) and Pato (yes, Spanish for duck) would crawl onto my chest, head bump me, and then just nap. There is a grace to your videos.

Your cat lives with you--- NO ONE "owns" a cat.. they "own" us-- or choose us.. (as you'll learn).. She's a little beauty.. and sweet as can be.. I rescued 2 brothers in California when I was out there-- which turned out to be PERFECT--- they always have someone to play with if they want-- and don't have to "get use to" anyone else. I have rescued a little one since being here and he's 1 year now and they're 6 on Thanksgiving.. They all get along GREAT.. and they bring lots of love, laughs, and energy to the place that othewise would be missing..

Exactly @ what everyone else said! You THINK you don't wanna be that "type of guy" but trust me, you'll regret later on that you didn't leash-train her. I leash trained my kitten and then stopped walking her for 2 years, and then we moved to a nice neighborhood that's isolated with nobody ever going outside. It was the perfect opportunity for me to let my cat get some exercise and lift her spirits. She LOVES going outside, but she has to stop and smell EVERY single thing, so you need to not think of this activity like walking a dog. Walking cats has to be on THEIR terms. After a year of walking her, I find I'm less quick to get angry or impatient. The whole time I thought I was training her, she was actually training me! I now see our walks as a meditation session. She's improved my life so much. I'd do anything for my fur child! 😂

P.S. I hate the backpacks. None of them are really that comfortable, and most of them are too cramped. I did the sensible thing and leveled up my cat lady status into "stroller pusher". Yes, this is who I am now. I have no shame anymore. If my cat can lick her hoo-ha in front of the neighbor's dog without blinking an eye, I can push my kitty around in her little Catmobile as the breeze whips through her fur and her eyes close in pure ecstacy. Also, now I can get my exercise out of our walks! When she's ready to get down, she tells me. I leash her up & walk her with one hand, while slowly pushing the stroller with the other. This has been the best compromise of our relationship. I'm traveling abroad rn, and I actually MISS that damn stroller (& my cat, of course). I NEED these walks back in my life, I've been so darn stressed lately LMAO.

@@davecopp9356 domestic house cats are not part of most ecosystems. They would be considered invasive if they were not pets. If someone’s pet gold fish gets into the local water systems they can destroy the local eco systems. Cats can do a similar kind of damage. Just because you’ve always seen them around does not mean they are an indigenous species to the area. Humans bring all kinds of species all over the place, but transplanting a new species into an existing eco systems can cause a lot of havoc I’m not hating on outdoor cats or their cat parents though, I’m just saying. Facts is facts. If you look up the life expectancy difference between an indoor vs an outdoor cat- it’s definitely of note for that reason too, not just the birds. That said, if you have an outdoor cat and they’re used to that kind of lifestyle it can be cruel to bring them inside- but maybe think about it for your next cat. You need to play with them with wand toys more and cannot skip having cat appropriate furniture or litter boxes, but to me at least, it’s definitely worth it to see my cats live longer lives, and the birds can too 😂

Indians came from the north down to the south in north america, killed the men and older boys and took the squaws and little children into the tribe as second or third squaw. Later the white settlers came and were stronger and had better weapons and took over. In nature the one who is stronger takes what he wants. Nature is immoral. There is no judgement in nature. A cute little mouse, even if she is pregnant gets eaten by a snake if she was unlucky. I always laugh when I hear people put nature as something it needs to be protected at all cost like it is sacret. Look at the wind mills they put in the beatuifull spots in nature which destroys the value of the view for every living being in the name of producing so called clean energy when in reality the materials they use create more polution then atomic energy. Nature is brutal and immoral. It will find always it´s own equilibrium.

@@Megforest1 We do NOT let DOGS run wild, out of the house. WHY CATS ? I used to think cats belonged outdoors too. Growing up, in the 1960s, we had a cat, Smokey. One day, he disappeared. Who knows where he went ? OUTDOOR CATS are great on the farm, where they sleep in the BARN and keep the mice and rat population down, but really, not in the city. The city is DANGEROUS for cats. Outdoor cats get killed BEFORE THEIR TIME, by raccoons, COYOTES (where I live), or they get hit by cars. There are also sadists out there that prey on poor animals that are sweet and innocent You do not want your dear kitty to end up that way, do you ? Keep them indoors, or take them out ON A LEASH, unless you live on the farm or some big acreage. There are two cats left in my household, both seniors, and they both lived outdoors when they were strays, before we took them in. Now, they live the retired life and they are well looked after. 😊 Best wishes to all.

Hi George, Junior is so goregous! That funny sideways walk/jump thing - cats do that when something 'weirds them out', such as when they see their own reflection in a mirror, and they can't figure out why there's no cat smells. Your place is still looking fabulous.

To protect Junior from falling through the stair railings... try using a garden netting. (Just attach with twist ties or garden wire.) There are different sizes of netting in different widths and colours, and usually comes in a roll. It is traditionally used to deer and bird proof trees in your garden. I live in a 3rd floor condo and attached the netting to my balcony railing, so my cat wouldn't be tempted to dart through the railing if a bird flew past. The one I found had 1 inch netting (holes), and is very strong plastic. Enjoy all your adventures with Junior. She's a cutie!😻

Don't worry about the railings. Cats are quite impressive with heights. My black cat jumps off something like a 3m wall by walking down on it. They're definitely not dumb and always land on their feet :)

Exactly, I really don't understand why dogs (if lucky) can be walked outside on a leash but cats can't. Why do people do not realize that a cat is just like a dog? A cat is curious, is an explorer, is territorial.. Just take the cat out for a walk or build a catio in the garden.

My sons cat did exactly what you dread with Junior. Macey jumped up on the banister at the very top of the stairs, slipped and fell down onto the stairs below. She was stunned but not injured, thankfully. She has never climbed up again (that we've seen). She is 100% an indoor cat, she races up and down the stairs and my son and her romp and chase each other everyday. Macey initiates it, it's hilarious to watch, my son is a grown man by the way 🤣. Macey is ginger and white and absolutely loves her Dan (my son). She was rescued from a rubbish dump at about 6 months of age we were told she was frightened of males but she has never been frightened of Dan, it was love at first sight for them both. Junior looks great. That is also a great name. The day she lays down on your keyboard, she is telling you, "you must pay attention to me, and I want you forever." I would also add that she isn't really a pet; she is family. It will take her a bit of time before she matures into that. You just improved your life! Good on you mate. Taking care of another sentient being is a blessing.

PS: You should get a harness that fits her properly (the pet store can help you) and take her out for walks w/a leash. If you start now, she'll quickly get used to it, and then she can't run off and get lost, because you'll be connected to her. You two can then enjoy beautiful sunny days together!

Yeah, our girl is now 1 year old and she loves walking out with harness (I walk with her everyday, that get's me out of house). It was pretty easy to get her used to it, we just put it on and then play like we normally did, she totally forgot the harness during the play. Also, having an indoor cat was better for my mental health as I didn't have to worry where she might be alone outside.

My tabby girl, Maya, on the second try, walked on the leash as if she was born with it. She is an indoor cat mostly with a catio, but we have a huge garden. The reason for keeping her indoor and on a leash outside, is that we have neighbours who are not cat friendly and shot our previous cat with a pellet gun in her bum, leaving a big hole. After stitches and healing she never left the garden again to roam the neighborhood. Also there are people who poisen the cats, because they don't like them coming into their yards. Horrible people, but that's the reason for the leash and she now asks for it when she wants to go outside (just like a dog 😺🐶). 🇿🇦

Oh my, she is perfect! I LOVE her! Junior is perfection, the sideways "cowboy" walk we call Crab Puffing in the US. SO adorable. Sh probably could use a buddy...maybe get another kitten for her...double the entertainment! )said by someone with 6 cats. 😺

@@Patchy Well, 5 of the 6 are indoor/outdoor, but all are in at night. I love all animals but cats are way easier in many ways than dogs....they are more independent by nature. And yes, Crab Puffing is when a kitten goes all sideways and puffs up a bit, especially the tail, and the chirp we as well call a trill, and when they get crazy and bounce off the walls and skid across the floor its Zoomies! Enjoy Junior, she is so gorgeous and obviously very sweet.

Ah she's adorable. You shouldn't let a kitten out until after her shots and allow her to develop immunity to the outdoors, so it's not a problem. You're doing brilliantly. We had cats for 25 years and are on 'hiatus' since the last two passed on. We hope to start again after some overseas trips this year in late 2022. They can land wrong and get hurt too though, so I applaud your precautions, especially since she is so small and inexperienced. My cat fell from a window ledge and landed awkwardly once, and gave himself a limp for a while.

@@Patchy ..yeah actually, besides the obvious issues with potential leg breaks and stuff like that shorter distances can actually be worse for a cat than higher falls (to an extent offcourse). If they dont manage to empty their bladders fast enough they might get injured or broken, and that is potentially a death sentence, so I'ld say that its brilliant to do what you do. ;-)

This got me crying, i miss my baby so much, lost her last November and the guilt i feel for not being there will hurt forever, sometimes i wonder if she expected me to be there or if she wanted to see me one last time, animal companions are such a blessing and a really life changing experience.
