I beg to differ they were very successful. Had 3 great singers sharing lead, sold millions of records 21 hit songs. You may b referring their not in Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Their not sam's goes for Tommy James and the Shondells it's travesty. Tho the Gogo s got in this yr, what a joke!

Cory Welles was a great singer. What made this band unique and great was 3 great lead singers sharing duties. Many great songs Joy to the World, Easy to be Hard, Elis Coming Shambala and more. Very successful from late 60s into early 70s Cory did a terrific cover of Otis Reddings Try a little Tenderness, phenomenal!

During that period I saw Three Dog Night 3 times. They were the greatest cover band of all time, and every concert was a joy. Try them doing "Eli's Coming", "One", my favorite "Shambala", and "Easy To Be Hard". All covers, all big hits, all great interpretations.

When it was cold outside, people would have a dog sleep at the foot of their bed to keep their feet warm. If it was colder, still, they might have 2 dogs, so a 3 Dog Night is a very, very cold night. That's what the band's name relates to.

Three Dog Night!!! A deep rabbit hole of hits. I didn't see them in concert until about 1988 when they doing fairs were admission was free once you were on the fair grounds. A friend and I took my 5 year daughter. When they played "Out In the Country" (AKA Before the breathing air is gone and the sun is just a bright spot in the night time.) everybody got their lighters out. Now it is the light from cell phones.

One of my GOATS in the 70's growing up with this awesome group and having met them in person they signed my "Captured Live at the Fourm" LP individually on their own pics (see the cover) and I saw them in concert so many times I lost count. Loved them and miss them dearly. Thanks for the awesome memories of the decade of my youth! So many hits their funniest yet probably most honest hit songs was "Joy to the World" which rode the #1 Billboard spot for 6-weeks! Cheers!

The lyrics were mama told me not to come that ain't no way to have fun. He's talking about going to a party and at one point seeing his girlfriend passed out on the floor and seeing things he hadn't ever seen before.

The name "Three Dog Night" come from the people of the far nortih. On cold nights they wouild sleep with one of the sled dogs. A very cold night required two dogs and an extremely cold night took three dogs to stay warm.

This group had a lot of great songs but for some reason tend to get lost in time. I don't know why. While they didn't write any of their hits, they were superb at selecting their material and had a top notch band. Because they selected songs to do from a wide array of backgrounds, their style could change dramatically from song to song. This might also be why they tend to be kind of forgotten. What did Three Dog Night sound like? There is no definite answer, I guess.

Three Dog Night is a very deep well of an awful lot of great songs, with a lot of different sounds. Some great suggestions would be: Eli’s Coming, Never Been To Spain, Out In The Country, and Joy To The World; and this is barely scratching the top of that list. I am really enjoying watching you enjoy the music of my teen years, and appreciate you keeping all of this music alive.

They killed this cover of a Randy Newman song. Well, he didn't have the voice or the backup musicians. They also did a cover of Newman's buddy Harry Nilsson for 'One'. 'Joy to the World', with it's unique vocal intro, was all over the radio when I was a senior in high school. In fact, you couldn't get away from it. They brought much Joy to the world. I miss happy music -- kvetch kvetch.
