Coming from guitar, I knew this was possible, but haven't ventured to this yet on harmonica. Can't wait.

4th Position (Aeolian Mode, AKA: Natural Minor) and 5th Position (Phrygian Mode) work great for Blues, too! Both offer relatively easy access to the Minor Pentatonic Scale, which you well know (and often brilliantly demonstrate) can be a Blues powerhouse! In 4th, the tonic note requires a 3D whole step bend, but otherwise all required notes are bend-free, AND unlike 3rd Position it allows access to the high tonic note. Similarly, 5th Position requires a 3D whole step bend for the low IV, but otherwise, it's all bend-free. Plus, adding the 3D half step bend and/or the 6 Overblow opens up the entire Blues scale. Thus, in addition to this GREAT lesson, one can add two more Blues-adjacent modes with relative ease.

Absolutely the best lesson I've heard explained this way! the big bonus is , with repetition, the muscle memory gets conditioned, and becomes your strong silent partner. Always enjoy your improvised playing, you make it sound so achievable.Thank you.

Thank you so much Jason. This lesson has unlocked the mystery of positions for me which I have been struggling with for so long. Just couldn’t make sense of it and now I suddenly do. This is easily the best harp lesson on KZbin. Thank you so so much. Wish you well - hope you’re doing good after your recent health issues. Stay well!

I’m unlearned when it comes to music, I am not a serious musician but I like to try to duplicate what I hear, However, I just realized that this approach of learning and practicing scales then using the scales as a framework for varying note patterns and tempo can be applied to jamming with any instrument. Fascinating. A real A HA! moment for me. Thank you, Jason.

No! I lip purse much of the time. If I'm playing traditional 50's chicago blues I'm more likely to tongue block scales or not.

Help me understand when to use the 2nd position Mixolydian scale vs 2nd position blues scale. Does it depend on the tone or the chord structure of the song? I seem to grasp most of it, but still not 100%. I tend to get stuck playing the same pentatonic blues scale and I’m trying to branch out. Thanks in advance for the help! The fact that one scale can cover so many flavors of melody just by changing the starting/ending note is awesome!
@jasonricci Жыл бұрын
You can use either over a seventh chord/s but when you have Two chords that relate differently to the same major scale modal playing becomes especially fun!

I dont...but they can be good for an extra chord or too...but besides that you dont really need them if you can bend and know where. They can still be awesome unless the song goes from major to minor! HAAA!
