I've long enjoyed using 1st Position for basic Country Blues, but the potential to actually get Blues inflections on important "money notes" is very exciting. Looking forward to this homework. Thanks, J!

So you must be mind reader Jason because I got up this morning after an atrocious attempt at Hoochie Coochie Man last night (not the basic riff, but trying to find a solo) I knew I needed some help on first position. This was great. Thanks.

Wow, so smooth and nuanced. Just beautiful emoting. Your demonstration makes this style very clear. It's definitely high contrast. When you were playing the high octane I had to almost turn the volume off. That range is piercing. Thank you. Merry Christmas 🎄

@@andrewharris7439 Awe man Thank you Andrew! That's really nice! I try to get as much up in between tours, It seems like KZbin videos take forever to upload these days and I really don't like editing! I get lazy and start thinking everyone else is already covering all the subjects and then I get busy and I slack big time. Really trying to step it back up! Thank you again for your loyal viewership! Hi, I'm confused about the positions. Are they the same on all harps? Lee oskars are the ones confusing me I think. The key is determined by holes 1-3 (1st), right? 2nd is 4 thru 7 blow and the rest is third. I think it was on a Lee oskars key chart, I read, ' first piston is 4 thru 7' and that was the key. Please help me make sense. I've only been playing for a month and I want to make sure I understand this before I get anything other than the C that was recommended to start. Thanks in advance. Merry Christmas 🎄

Hey brah such a good lesson i just found... I can do all draw and blow bends but i never checked up on a 1st position point of view, i kinda managed to interpretate you at rhe moment but I'm having trouble with the tenth hole, i can blowbend it but i can't pass through all the pitch down, i just go directly to the bend, i guess it's normal but what would you say to me about it?
@georgegarvin4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jason. In this 1st position lick, you play the 2 blow, which is not in the blues scale. That would be a major 3rd in the G Major Scale, right ? I think Hoochie Koochie Man is played with a major 3rd too. Can you think of an example of a tune in the blues scale played in 1st position? I'm gradually learning music theory having played by ear for a long time, and trying to understand when to play the blues in the blues scale and when to play it in the major scale.
@jasonricci4 жыл бұрын
Yeah man great point! The problem is the brd which is the note we want cannot be achieved in the first two octaves without overblowing the 1 hole and/or the 4 blow. You can get that note by bending the 8 blow however up top. Down bottom the best thing to do to get the bluisiest sound is bend that two draw a half step and keep the 3 draw bent a 1/2step on the I chord. When the band moves to the V you can play the 3 draw (natural) and get a nice bluesy bV note. When the band moves to the V chord you can treat that whole chord with cross harp licks! Great post man!
@georgegarvin4 жыл бұрын
Jason, thanks for the tip. So in 1st position when do you stick to the blues scale rather than the major scale?
@jasonricci4 жыл бұрын
@@georgegarvin the best way to choose between the two depends on what the chords in the song are. If they are straight major chords using the major scale in any position will work well if they are 7th chords or 9th chords the blues scale or minor pentatonic will work better but you could use both over both as long as the song is a major key.
