As the title shows, we have three gearboxes which have evolved from the humble 4 speed Sequential Gearbox
The first gearbox includes the standard 4 speed Sequential Lego Technic Gearbox plus the addition of Reverse, Neutral and Drive (R-N-D) functionality
The second Gearbox was built after I was messing with Microsoft’s Excel where I’d created a gear tooth calculator for the ratio
This enabled me to find a new step so the 8 speed gearbox really added an overdrive section so none of the gear ratios overlap as is quite common with the standard 8 Speed Sequential Lego Technic Gearbox
My unique 8 speed Lego Gearbox 1st gear is a genuine 3.1 ratio
This then got me thinking about adding a R-N-D functionality to this gearbox
With quite a bit of tweaking and redesigning, the last gearbox in this trio has both aspects of the above Lego gearboxes included
As you’ll see in top drive, the gears are so free, they even stop meaning this gearbox should be fine for manual uses too
It’s amazing how large the Stepper system has to be to run a sequential gearbox especially when you consider we only have 3 more gears compared to the original R-N-5 clicking gearbox
