@@bruntbrunette4819 Nobody seems to reply to these kinds of questions. It also seems a bit too good to be true to me as well. Though I'd like to start producing for at least my family and a couple friends.
@Taaj_Angad4 жыл бұрын
@@andreionisie168 Its actually very easy to farm and grow whatever you love or like if you have passion for farming. Leafy veggies grow quickly and most veggies are ready to harvest in 3-4 month. I grow mine on the roof and it gives me peace when I put my hands in dirt everyday.
@andreionisie1684 жыл бұрын
@@Taaj_Angad I am not saying it's impossible. It's just that it seems exaggerated. I am supportive of everything farming especially local/ CSA, but this just seemed to me at the time too good to be true is all. I am still studying.

I would like to comment on the growing things in high tunnels/under cover ( not in direct sunlight). I recently learned from an interview with Paul Gautschi ( Back to eden gardening) that food - namely tomatoes- have been tested & shown that there is a major nutritional difference in favor of being grown under the sun without anything even glass/clear plastic inbetween. Not meaning to pick on anyone certainly not on someone seeking to make a living while farming regeneratively & beyond organically needing to help make ends meet by using them to extend the season or grow something that they haven't been able to have success with outside of the tunnel. Just spreading the word hoping that others will care (do more tests if desired ) & avoid using them/covers as much as possible then. 1 option is to when possible, & where applicable of course, have a structure that can have the top/top & sunny sides opened during the daylight. But thanks for all you're doing & way to go ! Cheers from an ex-dairy farmer & hopeful soon-to-be small mixed farm farmer in NW WI ! Part of reason I care about that nutritional aspect is that my health has been a lifelong challenge & a very hard road, making making a living while growing own food with hopes of getting back into farming, difficult.

@AJ Burton Thank you🌱🌱 for sharing. All the way in West Africa
@1982MCI4 жыл бұрын
AJ Burton thank you for this info! I had not heard of this study yet but the results don’t surprise me. I have a small farm also and am currently only growing on just under 10 acres currently and I do use row covers in early spring and late fall to get my seeds and seedlings a faster germination and speedy growth but once the danger of frost is gone in spring then they are removed and all of my tomatoes are grown in the direct sun. I’ve got a 40’x48’ double arch greenhouse frame that I bought 4 years ago and have resisted putting it up because I felt better about growing things in direct sun and only using row covers to help getting the crops a jump start. This way I am able to have tomatoes to market a month before anyone else so I think it’s a win-win. So the greenhouse frame remains behind the barn where I put it 4 years ago and it’s still waiting to be put up. I would like to use it for all my seed starts but not actual veggie production. Take care and good luck on your farm

thank you very much for sharing! I am looking into starting a little farm myself, but I wish for the crops to be as nutritious as possible. How about planting lots of trees inbetween that protect the smaller plants and harsh weather?
@ajb.8224 жыл бұрын
@@Ben-mb4ft Thanks ! I'm not very experienced yet, but Paul Gautschi, who I learned about that from ( via the KZbin video, the longer one by Justin Rhodes ) grows his garden that very way. Has small ( I'm guessing dwarf size) apple trees throughout, maybe other fruits, heavily pruned tho. But he did say some things were in much heavier shade than they were supposed to "like" , but did great. This is a very established garden tho. " The gardening channel w James Prigioni " I think is the name, here on you tube, also shows successful "food forest"/ "forest gardening " .

This year, we're shooting for 180 members at $27/week ($756 for the full season), and it'll provide a living wage ($14.25/hour) for the three of us. Over 95% of our sales are to CSA -- the rest is to restaurants.
