@@fr0zrracing725 U must be fun at parties. Okay here's some info for you. This was 3 months before the end of the USSR. This was September 1991. Gorbachev lowered the hammer & sickle flag from the Kremlin for the last time December 25, 1991 & replaced it with the 3 color flag. This was the 1st western culture event in Russia in 5 years. 'For Those About To Rock: Monsters In Moscow' as part of the Monsters of Rock Tour. Artists were: Metallica, Pantera, AC/DC, The Black Crowes & E.S.T.. The military were going to cancel the show almost right before people started showing up. But for fear of revolt, they didn't. They expected 500,000. It was estimated at 1.6million. Crowd Scan had since tried to do an accurate count using video footage. They settled on 1.6million but said it was most likely a little more than that. 53 people died at this event. Most, they said, from drug overdose. 1.6 Million people....and this is only 3rd on the all time list of crowds at an open air concert. #1 is Rod Stewart at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with a crowd of 3.5 Million in 1994. #2 was Jean Michel Jarre in 1997 also in Russia, like that Metallica show, with 3.5 Million.

Kudos to your parents, or whoever it was, letting you delve into this stuff. But, this is the Monsters of Rock show that went down shortly after the Berlin Wall came down. Most kids in Russia, and all the other Eastern Bloc (Communist) countries had never seen anything like this before...and all the bands did it for free. Sadly, some fans died because of the Russian Army doing the "security." And they hadn't experienced anything like this either. There were "front line" troops, armored personnel carriers, tanks, and helicopter gunships...the "whole nine." Throw in three million (according to what estimates one believes) fans for the duration of the show, and it was like a landmine that'd been stepped on, waiting for the pressure release, and explosion. The last time Russia had that many people in one place was probably World War Two when the German and Russian armies butted heads. This wasn't JUST music history...it WAS history. Good for you girls though, and your parents.

Girls just to add some history to your "amazed" reaction about Metallica, Moscow and the massive crowd there. Soviet Union just ended the socialist regime and they'd opened to the world, just like Germany did with the falling of the Berlin wall, that divided their country. These concerts represented these historical events(because there were more bands live in Moscow, which never, ever, played there). Scorpions came out with the album Crazy World with the song Wind of Change(power ballad) Iron Maiden did Mother Russia from album No Prayer for the Dying to mention these two and I'm sure there is more, but this is plain history, real history!

This was one of the first times huge metal bands from the West played in the Soviet Union, and it was a free concert, so the crowd was really going wild. Stage security were soldiers. It was a weird time because the Soviet Union was just months away from collapsing, soldiers had a hard time understanding what was going on in the crowd because they had never seen anything like it before. Some of them thought a fight was going on and started beating people with their batons. Funny side note about Metallica. Back in the early days when they got bored they would put on little mini shows under the name Spastik Children, where they would swap instruments and play really bad cover songs. You can still find clips on youtube of James on drums, Jason on guitar, Lars on vocals and Kirk on bass.

This was Metallica's era in the early 90's, but performing in Moscow was huge & that change their careers forever.

You girls make me fly! High! The way you talk about the music, the way the guys play, the they move, James's voice, the interaction with the audience, the way you feel hearing the music, it's so great and full of emotion. Keep on doing it! It's like fresh air!

The girl on the right, their left in the video....I think she has a crush on a young James Hetfield and is in love with his younger, power, strong voice as well. Haha. It's so adorable.

@@cyberiankorninger1025 lucky bastard... i want to go to wacken someday, but hard to get tickets. And going alone kinda sucks.

@@themplar alone is not that bad I was 12 times at Wacken 2006-2017 including 3 times not with other friends (cause they busy) so "alone" but immediately met ppl including someone I went the other 2 times with and also if you dont come by car the international area is very nice (and closer to stage) with lots of ppl mixing more not like the big car camps which are usually fixed groups of Germans. Preferred that the later years and always partied together with neighbours. Another way for lone ppl is meet up with others like you on SM. But yes getting tickerts can be tough you have to be fast when they are being sold in a few hours, getting after Sold Out can get stupid expensive. Nothing this year ofc (my Graspop in Belgium also got cancelled) f*ing Corona

This is so cool and shows the power of not just Metallica, but all music. They all had good input on the song and the band and the giggling is still how I feel sometimes watching this even after 30 years of being a Metallica fan. Well done.

I love these kids. They like what they're watching, but have no clue what just happened to the country it's in. 1000 years of an empire just fell, and Metallica paves the way for the future of music. What a time in history to be living in.

At 5:40 she’s almost biting down and shaking her head “no,” almost like not believing what she was hearing and enjoying it so much at the same time. That’s usually my reaction during solos too.

When I was 16 I saw them a couple of weeks before that show here was recorded in Mainz Finthen/Germany. 65 Euros for Black Crowes, Motley Crew, Queensryche, Metallica and AC /DC. It was just behind the little forest where we used to play in as kids. Then one day we walked through as teens... stepped out of the wood and saw 600000 people (weak compared to that one here but for a suburb concert it was mindblowing for a young boy) and saw our heros. I will never forget it.
