My ear was made for the 000-18. Not kidding. Also thank you for this great video!

That 000 - 30 sounds the best !!! What a fabulous sounding guitar and a great looking guitar. Wish I could afford one of those.

Wonderful compilation/integration. The 000-18 brings back sweet memories. Wow. I recently got a 000-30 and I agree it is a fingerpicker's dream. All good sounds in that session . . . What fun you must have had.

An outstanding side-by-side of the 000-18 and OM-42. A truly phenomenal live and studio combo that compliment each other perfectly!

Bought a Martin J40 this year and sent it back. It just wasn't right for me. Still a great guitar, and great option rather than a dreadnaught (especially for recording). I'm thinking the 00018 is the one for me... not overpowering for vocals, and my left wrist prefers a shorter scale. Thanks, Dick. Always an informative pleasure!

My winner... is the 18. Beautiful sound.. and prefer the simpler less blingy look... but thats just my opinion. All were great!

Thanks for post Dick 8 so appreciate it. You're my brother from another mother. Omg! That OM 42! I gotta have it someday and someday soon! I'm thinking about selling my Harley for that guitar. I have a HD 35 2012 Martin. A 12 string Taylor. But that OM 42 yo me is close to Stephen Stills 1939 D 45 Martin! As close as possible without spending 80,000 on an old vintage Martin. Which, I could never do anyway. I swear with my eyes closed that OM 42 rings like a pipe organ, hence that old wood vintage sound! Not to mention that is one heck of a beautiful guitar! Yea, they could have kept the snowflakes....ha! Anyway, thanks for all your post. Still laughing at the timer post recently. The Leo quote: spend half my time tuning (70's) the other half playing out of tune! .....thank God those days are over.

I have to agree, the 000-30 does not go well with a flatpick.....but then again, a 12 fret 000 is really a fingerstyle guitar. I also think that the OM-42 sounds fuller while the 000-18 is brighter.......that is normal for mahogany to sound brighter than rosewood and medium vs light gauge strings. But one more thing....are you really telling me you'd pass on the OM-42 because of the snowflake inlays on the bridge? Really? I've known quite a few players that would die for it.
@johnlynch62487 жыл бұрын
Check out the 000-42. Same as OM except short scale and no snowflakes on the bridge. Not sure about the neck profile, tho. Great guitars.

John Lynch They are fantastic but lack the projection of the OM , not necessarily a bad thing may I add especially if it’s to be played on the couch when the mrs is asleep , don’t ask me how I know 😜

I have an HD 28 special a D18 but my go to is my 00018. There’s not a better guitar pound for pound on the market. But then Martin period is the best guitar made.

I’ve tried and tried to love Martin, but haven’t found one that fits my hands yet!!! And I have tried - believe me! Taylor (most models) work beautifully for me as does a Gibson SJ200 - the latter appearing to be a true workhorse that loves to play. I’m having to give up my pursuit of a suitable Martin guitar as I don’t believe that one exists for me.

Man I thought that exact same thing for ever! Since the day I learned to play about 15 years ago all I've ever played was Gibson.. I own several top of the line Gibsons and never thought I'd ever play or own a Martin... well 3 days ago I bought a D-35! It's absolutely amazing! The neck is so comfortable to play! And the tone is just Incredible.. my Gibson's wont be getting played again anytime soon.

Could anyone kindly tell me which Martin model number is equivalent to the Taylor Grand Auditorium size such as a 314ce. That is the perfect size for me but I am leaning toward ditching my 314 for a Martin. I love the size, solid nature and playability but have become disenchanted with the V brace sound. Where I live there is absolutely nobody within a day's trip or more that stock even a few let alone a full selection (even pre-pandemic) of high end guitars so just going out to try some out is not an option.

No losers here but ... the 18 gets the "less is more" award ... less bling, less overtones, less mid-range scoop, less scale length, less cost ... a clear cut winner. Side note: bound fingerboards and headstocks (especially those bound with white whatever) are not good.

Martin brand or not, they’re still guitars; they will not make you a superstar guitarist in an instant. You still have to study and practice a lot to be one.
@vedder105 жыл бұрын
Your absolutely right but some guitars inspire you to pick them up and practice/play more than others.

Taylors aren't much more forgiving in the price dept either. Gorgeous guitars though. I personally prefer the tones from the Martins myself.
