Listening to this beautiful, soulful chants today on 2nd April 2021 on Good Friday and it's 12.36 past noon in Peninsular Malaysia. Gratitude and much much Love to Jesus Christ, the son of God our Father who died for our salvation. Goose bumps all over my body as I hear these chants reflecting His sacrifice is so Great. Lord, Jesus Christ I love you and I choose to love all mankind as you have taught us. You are our life and our way. Amen.

They are solemnly chanting the account of the Passion of Christ. Jesus Christ offers us the only solution to all the evils in our life - His Life, Passion, Death and Resurrection. All we need to do is approach Him with humble and contrite hearts. He is still waiting for you and me and each person in the world. Christus vincit!

I truly love Gregorian chant they help me to be at peace in this troubled times we found ourselves but I love better the songs of the spirit if you have encounterd songs of the spirit you will never want to come back to this world again it helps me to know that heaven is within us as Jesus Christ has said may God bless you lovers of spiritual food Amen.

Hearing it in person is a truly moving and remarkable experience, much better than a recording (although this is beautiful as well). If you are ever in Indiana, go to Holy Rosary in Indianapolis. They are a parish church that celebrates the Latin Mass daily. Their holy week masses are amazing.

Beautiful music. I only take issue with the painting of our Lord being flagellated. Those 2 guys aren't Roman soldiers. Not at all. They're not even peasants. If anything, they're models or actors. Real Roman soldiers were armored to the teeth and could even scare the willies out of our modern day soldiers.

Most sacred art is based on the interpretation of the locale. Including the rendering of the chant. Don't be surprised to see soldiers drawn as the local warriors with their weapons. Most probably this was art to meditate on, looks clean and bright, also could be from the style of the period. There's always Mel Gibson's interpretation for those who prefer a dark and bloody rendering of the passion. Anyway, the soldiers whipping Christ are actually us, you, me, the followers who abandoned Christ and torture Him by our sinful disobedience.

I doubt that the Roman soldiers would have been wearing full armour to do a scourging. They would have been wearing basic soldier's garb - probably a tunic, with protective loin-cloth underneath, sandals, and belt with protective straps. A helmet would have been worn when escorting Our Lord to be crucified. The other reply to your comment is correct, anyway, in that the two scourgers are representative, rather than accurate. The painting is religious, and an artistic image.
