Islam unlike Christians puts much more emphasis on substance rather than false glamour (the same way Jesus peace be upon him and the disciples were.. just simple people with profound messages).. This type of choral music is part of Catholic heritage and has its roots in the ancient Gregorian Plainchant renditions of the many psalms which monks and nuns chanted. I suspect few non-Catholics would have shown any interest in this type of music in the 17th and 18th centuries, especially as The Age of Enlightenment unfolded (and many would have actively condemned it). I am glad that more and more non-Catholics are beginning to appreciate this type of music, not just for the singing, but for the actual meaning of the words.

Je pense que le beau est le chemin vers la foi. Malheureusement le beau a bien souvent déserté nos églises et en même temps énormément de gens ont perdu la foi. Je vous encourage donc à aller a une messe en latin au moins une fois dans votre vie (depuis 2007 Benoît XVI a facilité la messe en forme dite extraordinaire). Et comment l'Eglise a-t-elle pu priver le public d'une telle réjouissance aussi longtemps ? Cette période regorge de morceaux de musique sacrée extraordinaires.

Alex Paulsen This depends on whether you have lost your faith in Christianity, or your faith in the tradition to which you belonged. Although this wonderful version of the Miserere is in Latin, it is from a Chapel which is not in the Roman Catholic tradition. Ps 51 may be a personal prayer of penitence or a corporate prayer of the whole Church. Ps 51 and 139, sung like, this can set us free from the bounds of our traditions, and help heal our spiritual wounds.

I just realised I've conditioned my daughter to fall asleep to this song. I play it at night when she's going to bed to help relax her and fall asleep, and every time I play it, she's snoring before it's even half finished. If I don't play it, she's tossing and turning, fussing with her stuffed animals, talking to the kitten, and takes her like an hour to fall asleep. I've only been doing it for about 2-3 weeks, but it's awesome and I feel like Pavlov.
