I know this because I played a Red Eyes deck on Master Duel for a long ass time and every time I activated Red Eyes Fusion it only let me summon Black Meteor Dragon or Slash Dragon.

I'd like to point out, the reason Red-Eyes Fusion wasn't working was because it needed an Archfiend *Normal* Monster as that's what's listed for Archfiend Black Skull Dragon, which Red-Eyes Archfiend of Lightning only count as while on the field or in the Graveyard due to being a Gemini. If Doto had thrown Summoned Skull in his deck he would've been able to use it to slap Archfiend Black Skull Dragon down the second he'd gotten Red-Eyes Fusion even if the monsters were in his deck

Doto doesn't know what he's trying to do with his Red-Eyes deck... Gemini monsters are considered effect monsters in the deck and hand. Red-Eyes Fusion couldn't have summoned Archfiend Black Skull Dragon because Red-Eyes Archfiend of Lightning is considered an effect monster in the deck. Had Doto be running Summoned Skull, Beast of Talwar, or even Archfiend Soldier he could Red-Eyes Fusion into Archfiend Black Skull Dragon just fine. Gemini Ablation is a really great card for Red-Eyes, considering its discard mechanic to summon monsters from the deck, be it Gemini monsters as effect monsters or even fire warriors and well the amount of fire warrior monsters Joey uses is kind of his thing. In order to have the heart beat for a Fire Warrior Gemini deck, this is a must.

I was thinking the same thing except for when I checked the Joey Deck list cause they used cards only from their deck and adjusted ratios. In the Red-Eyes there is no normal archfiend card for Black Skull meaning that the only way Doto could have brought it out was by summoning Red-Eyes Archfiend and then fusioning it as a normal on field. Red-Eyes fusion was a dead card

@@chi-guy8068 Yup. Red-Eyes Fusion, Red-Eyes Archfiend, Flare and Archfiend Black Skull, were all introduced in this deck. Konami literally introduced a Fusion Spell that fuses from the deck, but can't because there's no targets. A retrain of Summoned Skull to work with Red-Eyes, and the new Fusion. And then made the Fusion work a thousand times better with the old version of Summoned Skull. I chalked this up to incompetence, but it almost feels like spite.

To answer the question of why red eyes fusion didn't work, they are gemini monsters. They count as normal monsters while on the field but are still effect monsters in the hand or deck. Makes you question why have them as geminis if the fusion was supposed to be tailored for them but whatever.

doing that runback was a great call, definitely made the video! i clicked the video to see 3 idiots get obliterated (thumbnail) which was thoroughly delivered, and as a Red-eyes player that last duel was a pleasant surprise. yeah, watching a red-eyes player who knows what hes doing is awesome, but i mostly just enjoy seeing anyone play red-eyes. Doto flailing around red-eyes wack restrictions and somehow make a play, without ever reading the cards, made my day. too bad that pre-made deck had nothing for Red Eyes Fusion though. for those wondering the only extra deck he was allowed was Red-eyes flare metal, Archfiend black skull, and Alligator's sword dragon. (no, he couldnt add summoned skull)

i rewatched the end and right here: 39:55 was his mistake. if he discarded Red-eyes or Archfiend he could have summoned it with Return later. And also, if he summoned Egg here 42:05 he could have gotten his other archfiend from the deck without tributing time wizard, and i will say, he made the right call with MST. AND also.
