This kind of writing can change how people are viewed throughout history. Cao Cao is always portrayed as villainous, but there's an earnestness in his pep talk to Xu Chu that really works to humanize him. "Because you live, I will smile even in my dreams." How can you possibly top that? It's actually crazy that in a story usually so heavily focused on the bitter struggles of the underdogs against a tyrant it's the tyrant who has the best speeches by far.

That because many people only knows from the novel not the real history, the writter of the novel very biased toward liu shu that why they make Cao Wei villains, that sad actually many movie or games or series more based toward the novel than real history, Cao Cao is actually good ruler tho, did he killed people? Yeah, did he a tyrant ? Yeah, but he maintain order after years of chaos because of yellow turban rebellion, Liu Bei is also not a good guy, he always let slide his brothers crime, like one time zhange fei meet with a 14 years old girl, after knowing that she from xiaohu family (The real Cao Cao family hes got Cao name because he adopted by his uncle) he kindaped and raped her, also then forced to marry zhang fei, also Liu Bei talks about benevolce its kinda bs, he always aim to become emperor himself,

To simply put it, all people are capable of both good and evil. The most evil of us isn't rid of all goodness. Just like how the kindest of us isn't rid of all evil. That is human nature.

@@gunawanputera6443 The thing about Liu Bei is the same as any ruler. It is likely true he did great things in adminstration and refuse to leave the refugees during wartime. All likely true. But as Cao Cao said too, his adminstration has also fed the people. The allegiance of man lays in their mind a lot of times. Lets look at China CCP. Now i know the western world hate modern CCP to the bone yet In the beginning the CCP also was a force of good that saved millions of Chinese from Japanese atrocities. Yet after a few decades Chinese citizen still think of CCP as heroic while a lot of people demonize them. So who is right? And who is right?. In Japan it is an inverse story, Japan commited war crimes in WW2 and yes has calm down and become kinda popular among the world , yet there are many within japan who would like to reclaim the glory of old Japan. Are the Japanese wrong for wanting real statehood? Or is it evil of them to want to return to an evil greedy empire? Nay all these thoughts are all true and false at the same time. That is why the truth lies in the middle. We are all villians and heroes depending on where you are watching from. And that is the simple truth. There lies the truth of so many conflict. That it is the heart of man that harbor greed, ambitions, blind faith and desires that compel some of them to commit terrible acts in the name of an "idea" they are drunk on.

Cao Cao: When a physician treats more and more patients, his medical skills become better and better. In another word, when more people die from failed treatments, the physician's skills become better. If a military commander doesnt taste defeat every now and then, how will he know how to fight a victorious battle? In this world, there is no such thing as an ever-victorious commander. There are only commanders who dont give up after a defeat, who grow stronger from experience. Failure is a good thing. Failure teaches us how to succeed. Failure teaches us how we can achieve victory. Failure teaches us how we can conquer the world. If a person wants to succeed, he must know when to hold on and when to let go. Its the same with warfare. One must be able to win and also be able to lose.

This is a beautiful parallel between 2 aspiring sides, and their quest to unify the lands. Zhuge liang to Lui Bei: "You need to first secure jing, then the river lands, and then you can achieve your dream of upholding the Han. It will take these 3 steps to ensure your victory." Sima Yi to Cao Cao: "You can't win right now, the odds are against you. Wait 10 years for your enemies to grow soft, build up your own nation's prosperity, and then you can deal a decisive blow to your enemies." If this were an anime reminiscent of L vs Light (Death note) then those two scenes will take place side by side, ending with both Cao Cao and Liu Bei declaring victory.

Of all warlords,it’s only cao cao who get along with his soldiers and give them all a little advise . Cao cao words on his soldiers was magnanimous. He had explained it clearly. The morale of his soldiers were in high spirits again ❤️

-chuckles- This interpretation of Cao Cao is impressive and able to understand his failures, especially his greatest loss at Chi Bi, in comparison to the other interpretation of him in Dynasty Warriors 7 where he would always look back at Chi Bi as his failure and lost some spirit in his ambition. This Cao Cao knows how a true commander and the psychology of war works indeed. His ambition cannot be stopped, until... Sima Yi of course.

Sima Yi's "loyalty", isn't the same as Guan Yu/Kong Ming, who dedicate brilliance and valor completely onto their lord. Sima is a complicated being, when the Three Kingdom peroid begun, there was a fourth kingdom, and that was the sole Sima Yi. He had to potential to start an era from scratch. That's why he always reminded himself it isn't Wei he's fighting for, it's for his descendents. Btw Cao Cao knew even if he treated Sima Yi like Kong Ming, he'd rebel against him when his kingdom weakens.

I think Sima was loyal to Cao Cao or was afraid of him and wouldn't dare to rebell . But Cao Cao died and his grandsons weren't match for Cao Cao. Besides Sima just strengthen his family neither he nor his sons called themselves emperors. Only his grandsons installed new empire and dynasty.

@@racot7145 : indeed, only Cao Cao was worthy of respect. The successors (and their clansmen) ranged from pretentious to downright useless. Since the leadership could not protect Sima Yi and his family from the power struggles, of course Sima clan in the end had to seize power. What else could they have done?

@@racot7145 Sima yi actually worshipped cao cao, more likely his principles (meritocracy), where only the capable should rule and not just by blood or name. Even cao cao would be happier when his descendants got usurped, because his 4th generation was just a kid with a corrupt regent (cao shuang) is similar to what the han dynasty became. Sima yi was loyal to the cao's because of how he was friend to cao pi and to cao rui(3rd wei emp). He only wanted to retire after his war with Zhuge Liang, but cao shuang wanted to kill all his clan just because of his deeds. So basically at the end Sima yi was forced to act first rather than to let his entire clan exterminated. He only killed the regent cao shuang only, not the whole cao clan. He stayed as it's prime minister (just like cao cao to the han emp). His 2 sons also didn't tried to usurp the wei because they were busy conquering shu. It was actually Sima yi's grandson usurped the throne after they defeated shu. so to think that Sima yi really intended this in the end game to me is WRONG since he was nearing 70 when he finished. And his 2 sons were more generals than a member of court. although he probably got the title after to be the "Founder of Jin" since its common custom to give honors to the ancestors. Like cao cao was. and that probably where the "he planned this all along" in his character got very MISUNDERSTOOD.

Kongming is like a god on this era, a man ahead of his time. I can say that all men are below him. Sima Yi is good because he beat kongming and heavens are on his side. Zhao Yun for me is the best among warriors, among the lords, CaoCao is the one for me. Look at this, if no one oppose Cao Cao will there be war? Cao Cao is a western man in an eastern world. Whereas others like Liu Bei talk of their loyalty to some dynasty, Cao Cao is prep-talking his men after defeat, stirring them to find honor even in their darkest hour, almost like a psychiatrist, and his way of running an empire isn't based on what Confucian society saw as honorable, but he based it on loyalty, trust, and merit. If he was born in Rome, he'd have been declared Emperor by the men ten times over.

Cao Cao was such a genius that he already saw what would happen in a decade, where the Sun and Liu would turn against each other and he would emerge victorious. But what he could never predict is the ambitious, unloyal Sima Yi. The realm he fought over and just when one of his descendent was about to complete his own ambition of reuniting China, Sima Yi just swoops in, weakening Wei emperors, performs regicide, force abdication.

11:17 Sima Yi finally makes his debut, and the trifecta is complete. CAO CAO, ZHUGE LIANG, SIMA YI ... the only three characters in the story TRULY worthy of respect and admiration. The epitomes of superior intellect. Other characters don't even hold a candle. I will be watching the rivalry between Zhuge Liang and Sima Yi very closely and analyzing both of their characters intently ... to personally decide which is the superior intellectual between the two.

Strategist: I like Zhuge Lian since that's how the novel portrayed him as a perfectionist. However, I find Sima Yi much superior in terms of reality. Sima Yi is the only counter for Zhuge Liang. But believe it or not, I think Lu Xun is the best strategist. Everyone sees him as a useless nerd who is incapable in actual warfare.
