Those three little hills were always known as Tres Hermanas or three sisters. An extremely interesting portion of New Mexico’s desert southwest. We, at times used to see a lot of Persian ibex on these very same hills. Quite a view all the way south into Mexico isn’t it! From the top of Gym Peak you used to be able to see the old ASARCO stack in El Paso, Las Cruces, and the out skirts of Silver City with a spotting scope.

Tres Hermanas (Three Sisters) is 14 miles to the southwest across the bolson and are separate from the Florida Mountains near the border town of Columbus, NM. They're considerably larger than 3 Little Hills which is an eastern outlier of the Floridas. The geology of the Tres Hermanas is quite different also. I can see how they look similar! I'll be doing a series on the Tres Hermanas Mountains soon once I finish my current and next short series (Grandmother Mountains). If memory serves what I read, they released a bunch of ibex into the Floridas several years ago, but I'm not sure if they're thriving in large numbers still there. The views from the area are certainly fantastic! I still need to do Gym Peak. I still haven't done most of the Florida Mountains which is funny, considering I've completed virtually everything surrounding them. I'm looking forward to seeing the view you described!

Have you done Cookes Peak yet? That is an amazing place also with Ft. Cummings, the old mining camp, and Doubtful Canyon on the Butterfied trail. As I looked further into your post the accompanying music you composed is amazing. I look forward to watching your other posts!

Cookes Peak was my first peakbagging video! 😊 I've since gone back and re-scored with my original works. I kept the original up though since it was my first mountain video, and to remind me of where I started. Also, I am genuinely grateful you enjoy my music. This means so much to me. Hopefully, people start noticing every range (and sometimes people) get their own themes, so it creates a music continuity from video to video within the same series (range)! More on the way! ⛰️⛰️⛰️

I was sitting here thinking, I like the music. Then see the comments you wrote it. Great stuff. I’m going to see if you’ve done a vid on the grandmothers yet. I’ve hiked just about every square inch of those mountains.

@drewolm I'm thrilled you enjoyed this! Grandmother Mountains series will be my next series. I'm currently working through the Lane Mountain complex (about 3 more videos to go). I am working on the 3rd video as we speak! For the record, Grandmother will only be 3 videos.
