My family. My grandparents moved away from their way before I was thought of. I don’t know why they moved from there but I do know that they were born and raised there including my grandpa. My family here says he wouldn’t talk about our family there but he passed so I couldn’t ask him anything. To bad lance family won’t give us back our family that they buried on their land. It’s sad. I’m still putting everything together. Thank you for sharing and merry Christmas from a real true McCoy. Yes our cemetery is private for good reason

I don’t know a lot about the feud, but I’m learning more from videos like these. Maybe it’s just the way I interpret things, but it seems like the Hatfield’s we’re usually in the wrong and continually escalated the feud. It seems like the feud could’ve died several times, but the Hatfield’s always seemed to do something to reignite it. I could be wrong, but if you had to label good vs bad…the McCoy’s would be the good guys. I’m not saying the McCoy’s never did anything wrong, but the Hatfield’s always seemed to do worse. Do most people feel that way or am I wrong?
@ironbutterfly6835 Жыл бұрын
@@BuckCommander8 I feel just the opposite. For instance the Mccoys attacked Ansa brother , he fought them alone and was winning. Two other Mcoys jumped in with knives and stabbed Ellison multiple times. One boy stepped on and shot him. He lived several days and Ansa tracked the boys down and held them saying if Ellison lived he’d let them go. Ellison died Ansa allowed the boys mother see them but denied Randol. The boys were tied to Paw Paw trees and shot. Hillbillie Justice. McCoys hired bounty hunters and. Bad Frank Phillips and his posse illegally pursued Hatfields and murdered them. To me it’s understandable why both families took things in theirs due to lack of legal justice at that time

A woman I worked with made a trip to West Virginia, after the Kevin Costner miniseries came out, to visit some of the sites. After she returned she had nothing but good things to say about the locals. I myself, accompanied a friend to her Grandmother's funeral in West Virginia 1990. I had the same experience. Some of the friendliest, most down to earth people I have ever met.

Celebration day, Memorial Day, was the 1 day a year our families would meet. Everyone would have a bite to eat and then break off to go clean up the cemeteries. Moving fallen trees and what not. My family was one of the first 5 families to settle in Mingo county. My great aunt Alta Cassady married Prior McCoy. My family also married into the hatfields as well. I’m proud to be part of both families. Daddy never talked about any of this but my DNA & documents gave me all I needed to know. I am of Appalachian decent and I’m proud of it! ❤

If I would have been related to either side I would have moved far enough where nether side would have found me plus I would have changed my last name to something they never heard of and forgot them. Hatifeild or Mccoy I don't care who started it or what it was that caused the fight both sides are equally guilty of stupidity. There's a saying takes two to tango.

Researching my ancestry came to Great-grandfather 4 Alexander Messer one of Devil Anse posse. reading newspaper coverage of the trials the judge gave Alex life in prison with hard labor Alex was quoted as saying "Jege i ant fit to no work".the Court room broke out in laughter, he was the one that went back after the others didn't want to kill the youngest Hatfield him being 14 so Alex told the others that "dead men tell no tales" then went back and shot him in the head blowing his head off. My family lives in Kermit.

Not at that time, and in that way I mean. What happened to those boys, and their sister before that, was brutal. But, 3 people jumping on one man, and killing him in that fashion, was just as brutal.
