My husband and I are not campers anymore, but I got a rocket stove because I live in Los Angeles. We are in earthquake territory and have automatic gas shut off valves, so the chances that I will have natural gas in my home in the event of an earthquake is about zero. After we run out of propane, I will have charcoal grill. After we run out of charcoal, I will have the rocket stove. Redundancy is the key for us. I am canning carrots in my Nesco canner as we speak. Thanks for helping us all to be more prepared, Pam and Jim!

As you were making the nachos, I kept thinking "why not layer it and heat the salsa?" We all forget things, and I know when making videos on a rocket stove, between the Temp and wood, it's NOT as easy as folks think. It's a great idea to practice now. You will be an expert, when you NEED to be! Great video!

When I was a kid we lived off grid. We cooked over an open fire with tin on top. It had holes in it to let the heat through. Our cast iron would get black with soot. We used to put dish soap on the bottom of the pans before cooking. It made clean up a lot easier.

You really are amazing! You cover so many different types of things. I've tried your meals in a bag and they're delicious. I've made your spicy pork as well as your beef stroganoff - yummy! I don't have the rocket stove but was interested to see your experience. Watching you try things gives people the encouragement to try it for themselves. Your husband is a lucky man because you are one prepared woman! I wonder if you might ever consider baking bread on the grill in case we had a grid down situation and could maybe use the grill to bake a loaf? Just an idea. Thank you once again for "keeping us in the know"!

When cooking on wood. Recommend that you can put soap(i use bar soap), on the bottom and sides of the pot/pan. Makes cleaning Much easier. Liquid soap does get sticky. Suggest an SOS PAD or a FINGER NAIL BRUSH TO CLEAN OUTSIDE. Maybe a Dawn works well too. Doesn't effect the food at all. Enjoy!

Great experiment I enjoyed it as I always do all of your videos. One thing we have to condition our minds as when we using rocket stove or outdoor cooking might be a good thing to have like an outside kitchen with all of its own utensils So in that way we don't bring in the black stuff into your house . Much love to you Thanks again for All your very interesting & informative videos ❤ Blessings

I do like that you're showing recipes that have quite a lot of versatility to them, whatever veggies you have on hand seem to pretty much work for the orzo recipe. I did buy a wonder bag (I found it in a second hand store for $10.00, they were selling it as a dog bed!! I wasn't exactly sure it was one till I got it home and found the top cover stuck to the bottom), then I bought second hand on eBay a Stanley insulated cooker. Now, I'm hoping you might be able to share a few versatile recipes like this that we can put together for this method of cooking. I'm hoping for some nice healthy meals without heating up the house during the summer.

Ah, all three meals were a inspirational! Now, for the loaded nachos, when do you add the salsa in the layers? I can imagen the aroma. I was not hungry, but now I am. I'm from the tropics (Puerto Rico) and my husband is from an Italian family. He does not like avocados and I do. So, I will need to add the avocados on one side of the pot. My mother (90 years old) grew up in the mountains of Puerto Rico. She told me that their Ajax or Bartender's Friend detergent was ashes. They cooked everything by fire, and they used the ashes to scrub off things. It makes sense since lye comes from ashes. Ashes are also good for whiting your laundry believe it or not. Try the ashes to clean the pots and let me know. Also, wear gloves. Lye is pretty strong stuff on your hands.

Thank You for your wonderful videos Did you know that If you put Organic-or Wild Grown berries in a blender then strain the seeds out through a strainer and then put purée back into the blender and blend again with Organic maple syrup, then you have Raw, uncooked berries that still have all the vitamins, enzymes and nutrients intact. You can do this to cranberries at Thanksgiving too! Sooo nutritious! Cooking destroys the vitamins!!! Don’t do it!!!
