Although I haven't caught many of your videos lately, I've often said how great it is to see the human element of model-making. Talent, long hours, deadlines, inventive solutions as well as the passion and comradery. What I haven't said before is how great the footage of the workshops is. It makes everything feel much more real.

Thanks! I enjoy both interviewing the model makers, and filming in the work shops as the models are being made. Every person has a story to tell.

So genial. Sorry, i have to give the compliments in german. Einfach fan, wie die Schiffe geworden sind. Ich könnte da stundenlang zuhören, wie was gemacht und gebaut wurde. Boah, das macht so gute Laune. Großartige Arbeit. Awesome. Magnificent. Keep up the good work. I adore your work.

It is a shame that these super-detailed works of the modeler's art didn't make it into the film. On the plus-side, they weren't blown-up in the battle scenes; which was the unfortunate fate of many movie models in the past. My compliments to the modelers. These are nothing less than fantastic! 201st like

So frustrating to hear these beautiful models were never filmed. I get the impression the VFX supervisor was somewhat arrogant and impatient, and probably thought the times had moved on from minatures. Such a shame, and the same thing happened to the 2011 prequel to 'The Thing'. They had some incredible animatronic puppets made for the monsters, but the studio execs insisted they were scapped and some really bad CGI was used instead.

This is the norm now. Espeically now since you can scan everything with an iPhone pro. I just built at least 20 landscape sets that have been scanned + other things. They still use the essence of what you made, and they grab the textures.

Sucks that those models weren't filmed but at least some of them are in a museum now and didn't get trashed like so many others.

These are always interesting. Funny about the mast extensions not being removed. The IMDB "goofs" nitpickers don't mention it, so I guess it wasn't too noticeable.

I just did this exact process for the past year - of building sets for a movie and then scanning them all for the VFX post-team

I fear Sora AI will do all this soon, and no one will be needed anymore... some studio suit tech guy will type in everything and create finished shots.

Too bad they didn't film the models. They are/were beautiful.

It's hard for miniature to achieve 'high realism' these days, and CGI is getter faster and faster in workflows and abilities. It all depends on the movie and what look is acceptable to producers

Airships in a three musketeers movie? What embarrassment is this? Why do people feel the need to butcher this story whenever they adapt it???
@piercefilm9 ай бұрын
The movie isn't great, but the airships look cool, and the models are beautiful. They might have been used better in a different movie.
