I never once considered that they would actually give away that much at once. But this is on them for not being able to openly communicate and set reasonable expectations. Every event that we have had has been set up in such a way that you can grind out all of the rewards, and if you're deviating from that it should really be stated up front

Most gacha games i play that have event shops always make it pretty easy for the average player to clear the shop. So if SD decides to go the fomo route and you can only get half the free cards then it'll just cause more bad blood with the community. People never focus on the things they're able to get but instead they focus on what they missed out on. So even if everyone walks away with 3 new cards, they'll still be unhappy because they'll be thinking about the other 4 they weren't able to get. Its human nature and common sense

Teasing people with rewards that they cant actually reasonably get is not FOMO, but straight up evil. If the marketing team tries that approach, they will either have to change course before it starts or give out more compensation. Because that would probably be the worst PR snap has ever had. They have been consistently a bit scummy, but have never had a controversy, where they did something really fucked up all at once.

Personally I never expected to get 7 cards. I expect it to work out that you'll probably get all three of the new cards if you're an average player and maybe you'll have a few extra points left over for cosmetics. This is basically the Chuck-E-Cheese ticket counter, you're saving up tons of tickets to get, like, a cool eraser.

If they make it so that a casual player who's decent at the game can get even 2 of the 3 new cards with relative ease while more sweaty players can get all 3 cards and some other shop items or 2 of the new cards and the series 4/5 unowned card, then I'd be okay with the event. Ofc I'd prefer being able to clear the shop by just playing a reasonable amount of games but after seeing whats in the shop that would mean everyone gets 3 new cards, 4 series 4/5 cards they don't own, 3 emotes (if you go by the shop emotes then that's 2200 gold a pop) and a bunch of resources which seems way too generous for SD to do. But I hope I'm wrong and SD made this event to get even more good will and keep the momentum going after the outage and subsequent compensation. If they're looking long term then they'll be overly generous with this event and whatever hit they take monetarily in the short term from everyone getting 3 brand new cards and 4 of the older cards they're missing will get made up by making the players happy which in turn may lead to people spending more to support the game. I know that I cut back from spending $50 or so each month on the pass and a few $20 and lower bundles to only paying the $10 for the pass for the past 9+ months. However if this event is crazy generous (and the next series drops are better than decent) then ill gladly spend $50+ each month again and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only player who would do this

My prediction was that the bulk of the point you can earn in the new gamemode will very likely be guarded missions like in HighVoltage and the big limiter is how many points you will be able to get in the two week. But now hearing that the gamemode could be an "Arena Ticked System" with limited access is very scary, if that is true than i hope its like in Clash Royal, (In there you have 3 Life's if you are F2P and unlimited life if you own the season pass). I was really hopefull that the limit for 4x random unowned S4/S5 card is aproxximate to the amount of tokens you are resonable able to grind out, like someone who grinds out the mode can get the 4xRandomS4/S5 rewards. But if it is truely a "Arena Ticked" system i fear that is might be even too restrictiv for the average player to get even all 3 regular summons imo. I guess we just have to wait and find out, whatever the system they put in place may be, i just hope that a player can grind a good portion of the event out just with dedication and being smart with there resources. I mean i hope these scrolls are not something like an entry ticked, the least thing i want want is people to get majorly less rewards because of: bad luck, skill issues or low CL.

I think they just shouldn’t have showed the event shop at all if they weren’t ready to talk about it. I agree that there isn’t anything wrong with an event that reasonably gets you 2 or 3 cards, but they basically put out an ad with the implied message “Hey, you could get up to SEVEN cards…” so I don’t think it’s totally on the community for getting excited about that.

It's weird because when they talk about game mechanics and balance and stuff, I feel like their communication is spot on - it's always interesting and often insightful. But then when it comes to the marketing side, there's always either a lack of critical information or some kind of catch that they bury until it's too late and everyone gets mad. It makes no sense because the marketing side should be the side that nails the communication. If your marketing team aren't keeping people hyped for the game but instead are continually pulling the rug and making players feel disillusioned, they're just not doing a good job.

Unfortunately most people will still expect to get all 7 cards plus most of the other stuff from the shop. Its basic human psychology to focus on the things you missed out on rather than the things you were able to get. So even if everyone can get all 3 new cards with an average amount of playing (which is 3x better than any previous events) most people will still feel slighted that they missed out on 4 series 4/5 cards they don't have. The devs have to think about things like this when they design these modes. I know they need to make money but if this plays out the way KM (and myself) thinks it will then SD shot themselves in the foot when they could have easily avoided it.

I’m probably very off with this but I’ll say my thought anyways, It’d be interesting if the ‘Scrolls’ were used as boosters, like, you have x5 Scrolls, so each time you do win a location, each scroll used (per game) increases your actual winnings by (X) amount! Spend 100 of the coins, but in return, you may be able to Triple your hard earned rewards?? * Just my thoughts and speculations Edit: That being AFTER the game ends, not during.

Personally, I am trying to get ahead on all my monthly objectives so that I can spend more time and resources on the new mode than what would normally be my "expected" output. I want to genuinely thank you for this video. It felt like I was watching a balloon slowly fill to the point where it was about to explode. Since this video, I've seen it referenced several times on Social media. Then Glenn gave a couple of answers in the ask-the-team channel. The reddit posts discussing his answers all have posts referencing this video. If SD made a generous event and it ended with a community hissy fit, I was going to be genuinely upset. If that doesn't happen I will credit this video for preventing the balloon from exploding. (It could still happen)

If they made the mode permanent and kept adding even more cards to the shop over time then it would be fine even if it took you a couple weeks or a month to get each card. However, if it's just a 2 week event and the average player will walk away with just 2 new cards and miss out on everything else then the event will cause more uproar in the community. And like you said 2 free new carda from a single event is twice as much as we've ever received previoisly but players wont look at getting 2 new cards for free but instead they'll focus on the fact that they missed out on 5 other new cards. It just seems like its more fomo and trying to pressure people to spend im order to get everything thats offered from the event. So instead of gaining more good will by giving away free stuff, SD will just undo all the good will they've received from the compensation package. Its just one PR blunder after another with these devs, its sad but it is what it is i guess.

If peoples assumptions are right about a 16 point maximum per game, and those are "entry tickets", paying 100 points for 5 of them does not make any sense...

I came here to point this out. If the Scrolls are tickets, then there must be other ways to gain points from a game than raw score. Another point is that as you say, the Scrolls are a one-time purchase. I can still see them being tickets; there's more than an implication that you can buy into the event, probably with gold, and offering F2P players a one-time rebuy wouldn't be unusual. However, again that means five plays has to be worth more than 100 points. It might be that you're expected to gamble and can lose or gain on the investment, but there would need to be a very real expectation of gaining to make the game worth the candle.

I suspect you're right and they're going to make this a recurring game mode where you'll be able to get some of the stuff and each time it comes back, the same items will always be in the event shop. So if you already have the cards exclusive to the mode, there's still stuff you can get in the next run of the event (S4/5 cards).

What I think they are potentially fucking up here is the comms about the new mode. Your concerns about what they’ve said so far about the mode are totally valid. They’ve surely learned from DD and HV that if free cards are available in a mode, players REALLY want to get them. So if you’re reading between the lines is right that players may be able to get 1 or 2 of the free cards, but anyone with a life realistically won’t be able to get all 3, then their comms ought to be doing a much better job of managing player expectations.

If it’s ANYTHING over that, it’s REALLY FUCKING BAD. It’s genuinely that simple for most of the community. If most people won’t be able to get the good stuff, you might as well don’t put such a shining mine of gold right in front of them. I’m not talking about this being “fair” or not. Second Dinner isn't as terrible as some people paint them out to be, but it's important to remember that they are ultimately a business, and need to make money in some fashion. The selective transparency is pretty frustrating, but i think KM's point about dialing back expectations is really apt. Instead of "i'm getting 7 new cards!" I feel like i'll personally be a lot happier approaching this even as "i'm going to try and get Laufy, then hopefully grind out one more new card in some fashion; anything beyond that is great if i can".

There's no reality in my mind where we could clear the shop, that's just not how SD works, they're zero precedent in that level of generosity (except for the blip compensation but I consider that to be a one-time event that won't occur again).

I think people got so surprised by the incredible compensation from the ban that they forgot just what company they are dealing with in the first place. For example, Second Dinner considered the first Deadpool's Diner a success because so many people engaged despite numerous complaints that the checkpoints were so few and far between. People only pushed through because Cassandra Nova was essentially a must own card. They were somehow shocked when those numbers were down despite ignoring all feedback and giving us a card people probably forget is in the game in King Eitri. So I understand the concerns about this upcoming mode. They rarely seem to learn a lesson. Second Dinner gained a TON of goodwill from the compensation. They are going to lose it just as fast if this mode is essentially a job or solely for whales. The funny part is, whales probably already own all the cards so the unowned cards rewards loses value for them too! My expectations are in the dirt in the same way for the last series drops. Would love to be wrong though.

Cosmetics can 100% be supplemental profits, even enough to let the devs be more generous with stuff that's used/needed for actual gameplay like cards in SNAP or characters in kther games. However having cosmetics be the only source for monetizing a game almost never works (and even when cosmetic monetization does work, the cosmetics change or buff the items they're used for so basically just another way to sell power)

I think if they said that this event would recur on some predictable timeline, that all your currency would carry over, and that the rewards wouldn’t disappear… that would help if it’s as difficult as you laid out. Just giving people the expectation that they can get all of these cards, even if not right in the first 10 days would be good. The worst would be saying that right after the event these cards are all go straight to series 5 and in 3 months we’ll do it again with new cards

Hey KM, DinoMath here. Thank you for making this video. I am not going to lie, I got caught up in the hype of 7 free cards but what you are saying here makes a lot of sense. Even in a new era of snap it's just not realistic they will give away 7 free cards. So it is good your are trying to settle expectations down with this video and I hope a lot of people watch it. I don't want backlash and people leaving the game because they set wrong expectations when Second Dinner never said they were going to give away 7 free cards. I also hope Second Dinner makes it clear that although feasible it is highly unlikely so people set new expectations. After all 3 free cards it's a lot anyways. As an affliction main, I am most looking forward to Laufey, him with Diamondback could just win one lane and then you win another with Ajax and as long as there is no cage on the other side this allows you to have winning games without your own Cage.

@@xdrkcldx I mean, for people who are currently collection complete, if they could skip the cards and be guaranteed to get them in the event, then it absolutely would have a bearing on whether to spend keys or not. Personally I didn't risk it because we don't have enough info (like, if I only have 1 s5 missing, am I guaranteed to get that or would I be 99% likely to get a PMV).

People arent going to be happy because they like to clear shops. It will even bother me personally if i get fomo'd out of limited rewards like emotes, if you cant get everything. Alot of people like to collect, i feel they should make shops smaller in future events to prevent annoyed players. But first we'll see how this goes

Yeah, every gacha I've ever played that has a shop for limited events always makes sure it's pretty easy to clear the shop. Players will always focus on what they missed out on even if they're able to get a lot of other good stuff. If what KM fears comes true then SD will make players angry for really no good reason

I don't mind grinding if the grind is feasible *at all*. But if it's ticket/time gated, that sucks. I also think it's silly when these game modes don't let you play the game in general (I'm looking at you, Deadpool's Diner)

I'm very interested in the "how many points we will get for match". The design part of it. At least in the screenshots, we don't have a single number that's not dividable by 5. In a game where you win with 16 points, maybe it could have a multiplier?? Thats what I'm hoping for. Instead of 16 points per match, maybe it goes x5, and you get 80? That makes getting a reward more achievable! What you think it will be KM? Do you think its possible?

In every event before, players have been able to earn every single available item without spending, and that's definitely the biggest driver behind those expecting to get all the free cards from this. If the intention is anything other than that, it needs to be communicated very clearly and early by Second Dinner or it can only negatively affect player sentiment once again.

I just hope the game mode is fun to play. I didn't play on the infinite ladder last month cause I was a bit burnt out, just did my missions in conquest, yet I still finished just shy of top 1000 😂. Makes me laugh that people expect so much free stuff, like the game is free is that not enough? Great content as all ways KM, wish you the best for 2025.

If they showcase all of the awesome rewards you can choose from in the reveal video and then players can only get like 2 cards and a few boarders, then of course players will feel let down. SD just said they are trying to win the player base back and its a new era (that's implied to be more generous). No one should expect to clear the entire reward track, but surely you can accumulate enough points to get a healthy amount of rewards... Maybe the mode and shop come back in a couple months and you pick up where you left off working on clearing more of the reward track even

I heavily disagree with the notion that it's "unreasonable" to expect to get all the cards, but I think we're looking at this issue from entirely different viewpoints. When you (and, I expect, most players) look at a new event, they think "Oh, cool, a free card I can get just for playing the event!". But when I look at it, all I'm thinking is "Damn, if I'm not playing this event enough, I'll be even further behind than I was before it". That's because I recognise that all of the events so far had been collection NEUTRAL at BEST. They aren't just giving you an option of receiving a free card, they are adding that card into the card pool in the first place. Due to that, having a chance to receive more than one new card from the event isn't better - it's literally the same at best, and that many times more at worst! Sure, missing King Eitri felt bad, but if I don't grind THIS event, I will miss THREE MORE cards... And it's not like the cards are that good either - an Anti-Arishem tech card, a big meatstick for High Evo and a meme card aren't the things that I particularly wish to get. And the expected grind needed to get theese underwhelming cards just to stay collection neutral is outright disheartening. And that's actually all the more reason why them dangling the "Unowned Series 4/5 Card" in the shop is such a shame. We had been BEGGING for any more improvements to card acquisition, and here it seemingly is: not one, not two, but FOUR cards that you can catch up with!!! It's the first time that the event isn't collection neutral, it is actually collection POSITIVE!!! ... That is, if it is possible to get all of the "new and exciting" cards and at least one "Unowned" card without paying or praying to God for the best luck in the world... If they were to come out right now and say that it's realistic to get all of that, that a casual player can get 6k of the currency (366 games at 16 points per game, btw, or more than 21 full wins per day of the event) just in time for the event to end, I would be cool. Sure, they are dangling those three extra cards in my face, but at least i'm catching up a bit. If they were to say that we can realistically get ALL of the card rewards (12,6k of the currency, or 788 wins, or more that 56 wins per day, btw), I would be actually delighted! They could do nothing more on card acquisition, and it would feel like the change we all were desperatly hoping for if this event was to become a monthly thing, or if other events were adjusted accordingly. But if even just getting the three new cards (the bare minimum to stay collection neutral) is deemed by the developers as just "certainly feasible", I don't think we can expect either of the two scenarios I listed above. Before this I had already been on the verge of dropping the game entirely - I've stopped buying season passes in December, despite finding Galacta really cool. All I've been waiting for is the promised "Big Series Drop", that will certainly happen (... at some undetermined later point ;] ), and this could be a way to show that they are changing for the better and change my mind on leaving. But if this event is as much of a disaster as I expect it to be, I would probably be quitting the game before the April season.

Tbf I think you are underselling these cards pretty hard. Uncle Ben is a 1/2 that can potentially be a hydra bob for any deck running KM, Gorgon also helps with iron patriot and Victoria Hand and MAY have synergy with cards like master mold, and Laufey screams like it will be the second best four behind AV for Ajax builds

I don't play the decks that are likely to run Uncle Ben and Laufey, and the tech cards, imo, should be released straight into Series 3, so that most players have access to them, and not limited to an event/Series 4. My entire comment had been made from a subjective POV, I acknowledge so at the beginning, so if people are generally excited about the new cards - good for them! But for me it is just another 3 cards I have to grind for before grinding more for stuff I might actually use.

I mean, it might be a new era for snap, but the people taking decisions are the same. So they wont gift us 7 new cards unless they are really really desperate wich they don't seem to be. It definitely would have been better to release the rules of the event with the video announcement so that people know what to expect. Because how they presented it, it means were getting 7 new cards and variants and emotes but we know its not like that. The average player will not be asking himself if all rewards are obtainable. He will see rewards being there and will thinks its like conquest. So yeah, poor choice.

I'm under the assumption that the points gained from winning locations aren't in 1:1 correlation with the currency used to unlock the shop items. There could be possible multipliers and maybe missions, which haven't been showcased in the reveal video, so this is just wishful thinking on my part. This game mode being as grind intensive as Deadpool's Diner (especially DD 2) is less likely taking under consideration the feedback SD got and what they've said following it, not that their word is to be taken as gospel. I want to grind this game mode; I wanna make it to Infinite before it launches and then grind away for 2 weeks to guarantee 7 new cards, that cool title and credits. I'd hate if it's time-gated, ticket-gated, or win-gated, while it's already a limited time mode. They're doing something unprecedented in offering unowned cards, which makes me hope, although hesitantly, that their ways have become a bit more generous.

Tbh Deadpool dinner's is a chore where the card was annoyingly long to get. The High Voltage system makes it so the biggest part of the points you acquire are coming from quests, and are limited by design when not spending. I can't see why Sanctum Showdown will differ from that design. As a digital game company, balancing how much you provide Free to play as an incentive to spend gold seems to be the key to sustainability.
