Once again, clear, concise and informative. Cheers, Robin.

Thank you Robin for showing us how to add that lovely warmth to the clouds. I can now use this technique on some old photos I have. They'll look so much better.

You are so welcome! It doesn't always work with every image but it can improve a lot of them.

Great tips, Robin. Really like these videos showing tips as they are so easy to learn from and easy to try out on my own images. Doesn't overload the fading short term memory!

Another good video, thanks. Like many people I go into the Nik Collection from Lightroom, and am never sure which edits to make in LR and which in the Nik plugins. I'd find it useful to know when you think the techniques you are demonstrating are better done in Nik than via the standard LR tools.

Thanks, and it's a good point. I'm currently trying to develop a video to explain my full editing approach. I don't think of it as using one tool instead of another. I try to think of the finished image and then move towards that gradually using a series of adjustments, often using different tools. For example, I use the RAW converter to get the colour balance and exposure right. I might also refine the lighting. After that I may take it into Viveza to add colour and light and possibly Color Efex Pro. Finally, I might go to Photoshop or On1 to add a slight glow effect knowing that it will enhance the lighting and colour.

The more comfortable I get using control points, the more obvious it becomes that they are one of the most powerful and efficient ways for me to create natural looking results. Every time I see a tutorial like this, my technique expands and I have to go back and re-edit old photos, always with positive results. It seems like many of landscape photographers try to achieve similar results using radial filters in Lightroom, which is pretty limited; the more savvy will use luminance masking in Photoshop with great effect but a lot of work. Thanks: now I have to go and re-edit a couple of photos...

Control Points are wonderful things and make editing very intuitive.

Thank you Robin another excellent tutorial. I am really finding Nik brilliant for my Cornish seascapes. Liking the way it works with photolab. Using affinity to stitch my panos and for focus merge which is doing a great job. Only trouble is dxo will want some money soon!

Glad it was helpful! And yes it will probably be time for another PhotoLab update soon.

So control points in NIK are always round shaped? Or can you adjust the shape? I have NIK on Affinity, for for straight RAW edits I use mostly darktable.
@RobinWhalley3 жыл бұрын
The Nik Control Points are always circular. You create other shapes by using multiple control points grouped together so that they use the same adjustments.
