Shore miss Mr. Donald. I think he passed in August 2019. His rare style and presentaion with that Southern sense of humor endeared him to literally thousands of people... gardeners in particular.

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for all your advice on gardening. I have Wached every show you have made. I plant about 1 acre of land. All different types of vegetables. I have a autistic son. And we go to farmers market and sell on the weekends and donate a portion of the profits to the autism foundation. But again thank you for your hard work and time spent making videos and helpful information and advice. Thank you and God bless you.

It's that time of the year... I have a John Deere 2520 which is a 27HP diesel unit and my tiller is a 5 foot built in TN. It's a major PITA to get on and off the tractor due to the weight. But once on, it beats the socks off anything I have tried including my old Troy built Horse. Nothing in the world better than fresh garden vegetables other than a pretty woman. :) It's good to have both..

I have a 70 inch Land Pride tiller and I am seriously considering selling it. Not because it does not work good but because after finding out about the Back to Eden style of gardening and using it last year I will probably never till my garden again. I have been composting large piles of wood chips and leaves and when they are done I have been covering my garden with the compost. Before I hardly had any worms and now the worms are coming back, the soil stays loose, it does not dry out in the summer heat near as bad. I planted 4 rows of beans last year with out tilling and just added more compost between the rows and had the best crop of green beans ever. To turn over the compost I just move the pile with my front loader right next to where it was and then move it back the next time. I just planted my potatoes, I placed them on top of the compost and covered them with more compost but I also put wood ashes along each side before they were covered. The ground would have been way to wet to till and this way I was able to get them planted a bunch earlier. You would not believe what a pile of leaves will turn into after a couple of years, some of the best looking soil I have ever scene, and the worms love it for food. Converting to the Back to Eden style of gardening takes some time but the results are worth it. There are videos here on youtube all about it. In the past I had bought large round bales of hay, rolled them out and ground them up with my mower and then tilled them in; after a year you could hardly tell anything was added. What I found out was that the bacteria in the soil will consume the organic mater and most of it will be converted to CO2. Not any more, now I have a thick layer of rich black compost on top. And the weeds that do come up are easy to deal with, they come out easy.

Using a Howard rotovator 1 pass is all that is needed and then disk can be used for a second pass or vice versa. Over tilling destroys the soil tilth and structure.

Have you ever thought about making yourself a row shaper to attach to the back of the tiller? I Made me a single row and a double row shaper out of a cut in half 275 gallon oil drum shaped into a wedge that attaches to the back of the tiller that shapes and packs the loose dirt into a perfect two foot or 4 foot row with tapered sides. Man it's nice to have and compliments that tiller some good boy.

I Tried to find one in my hundreds of pictures, it's painted green if you can find it in my pictures on my Facebook page here: facebook.com/rockhillfarm.lubecmaine I Also have pictures of a V-snow plow blade, a box blade scraper, and mulch fabric laying machine and a strawberry picking machine i made out of scrap metal. All you do is take the flap off of the back of the tiller and leave the hinges and build a half clam shell box out of steel in the shape of the row you want and attach it to the hinges on your tiller. Then you take it out and try it to see if it's what you want, if not trim it down till it gives you the row shape you need. It's trial and error like anything else. I Have U.S. Patents on two of my attachments and the strawberry picking machine.

That's all well and and good but you should have the rocks we got around here. I have a King Kutter that I have worked the daylights out of but have never had a tine to break. Apparently I got it before they started putting the cheaper made ones from China on.

To Arturo Cuevas in Puerto Rico. Congratulations, you own a gold mine of land. the best and cheapest tractor for your land is a used FORD 8N, parts are cheap and easily available in continental USA. Also any used FARMALL or INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER. Make sure it runs on gasoline, you can run it on propane, butane and a few more gaseous fuels. Diesel is way too expensive for farming. DO NOT BUY KUBOTA OR JOHN DEERE, they are too expensive and spare parts are sky high in prices. (they charge for the status and fame). You can find a good used tractor in CRAIGLIST or EBAY, JUST GOOGLE IT. New York, 02/03/17.
