Thanks Bro! I love the first one and it is a good one for a multiple day trip. The tub floor does a great job of sealing out water and insects. You can add paracord about two feet from the top to make a nice gear loft to keep it out of your sleep area. I have oiled up a bunch of pine straw under one of these and it kept it quite warm. Good luck and thanks for watching my friend.
@Reallybigmonkey112 жыл бұрын
Cool, we had a great time showing the ole Teepees. Thats cool that you have made that last shelter before. Yes, that is a very good shelter. Sleep under the stars in warm weather, have a fire in the middle in cool weather and drag a tarp over for rainy weather. Im glad it brought back memories for you. Take care and thanks for watching my friend.
@Reallybigmonkey112 жыл бұрын
Cool, the first one is my absolute favorite one too. The bathtub floor is awesome for keeping the rain out and I like to stretch more paracord overhead to have a gear loft for if I want to put my pack overhead instead of using it as a pillow. I was happy to show this one. Take care and thanks for watching brother Kev.

Cool! The third one is Nicks favorite. No cover for the warm weather, a fire for the cool weather and a tarp for the wet weather. Its a fantastic all around set up for two people. Im glad you liked it, thanks for watching my friend.

Now thats a pretty cool idea. We either have a tarp or a fire. We havent had both. with separate ridge lines we could all have a trap and a fire. Great idea! The gear attic has been really useful many times. Thanks for watching my friend.

thanks Robin! Yes, it is a cool way of two or maybe three to camp. Its very versatile too, camp under the stars in warm weather, have a fire in the middle in cool weather, pull the ole tarp over for rainy weather. Its Nicks favorite. Have a great weekend and thanks for watching my friend.

Hey Dave... Something I've noticed in a load of your Vids that i think is great and you picked up on it, that Nick didn't film 'the important part'... But i think you're missing something... When your dad films, he watches your hands and what you're doing in an older generation 'show-me-something-impressive-way'. When Nick films and you say it's an important bit, he always gets your face in, like he doesn't want to miss a thing his 'old Dad's going to say... He clearly thinks the world of you... Good Parenting dude... Plus I gotta say... you just might be the happiest guy alive... Rock on...

Cool! that last one is very versatile. Sleep under the stars in the warm weather, have a fire in the middle in the cool weather, pull the cover over for the rainy weather. If youre trapped in heavy rain for days and water a few inches on the ground, this is THE shelter to be stuck in. Rope and paracord are a must in my opinion. I can not believe how little other people use the stuff in camping. The leaves are all yellow, gold and red now. My favorite time of year. Thanks for watching my friend.

Thats cool. Its amazing how small a diameter those trees can be in that tripod set up. The hammocks are not mounted too high up so they will take quite a bit of weigh. This is the perfect time of year to have a fire in the middle if the wind isnt blowing too hard. Thanks for watching my friend.

Sounds cool. That third one is Nicks favorite. You can sleep with no tarp under the stars in summer, have a fire in the middle in the fall, have a tarp with an opening in the top to get rid of smoke from a fire in the winter, or just outright use a full tarp for a heavy rain. The options are endless for it. Its great for more than one night camps. Take care and thanks for watching my friend.

They sell grommet kits at fabric stores like hanccok fabrics or Jo anns and craft and hobby stores like Michaels or Hobby Lobby. The kit comes with a punch and a small piece of wood. You align the punch and hit it with a hammer. It has a set of upper and lower dies. You align them with the punched hole in the tarp and hit it with a hammer. It seats the grommet on the tarp. Its quite easy to do. Thanks for watching my friend.

Cool, That one is Nicks favorite. With or without the tarp depending on the weather. Its awesome to have a fire in the middle, keeps it very warm. You can get it on amazon or several other military or camping online vendors and its USA made. Thanks for watching my friend.

Anything with weird in the title & I know I’m gonna love it 😆 I’m just thinking to myself what a truly wonderful parent you’ve been to Nick. Most dads will take their kids to McDonald’s & put ‘em in front of the tv or a computer game. Not only are you always spending quality time together just the 2 of you, but you’ve also taught him invaluable life lessons & taught him your true, good and honest morals, which is so rare these days but the best thing a person can have about themselves in my opinion. He’s a very lucky young man, and I’m sure you’re a very lucky father, as he seems to have grown up to be a good person. (His camera skills have improved too I’m pleased to say : ) sending my love to you both.

@Reallybigmonkey112 жыл бұрын
Yes, thats a very good idea, Gullrica already mentioned that too. Thats what I love about youtube is sometimes others see what I dont see. In this case, I just got so used to using those stakes for all my tub type floors that I didnt even realize there were two poles right there in front of my eyes to tie to. I couldnt see the forest because the trees were in the way, Ha Ha. Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching my friend.
@Reallybigmonkey112 жыл бұрын
Sounds good bill. A few details that I left out. For the tarp tub teepee, make the poles two feet taller than you are. For the triple hammock teepee, make the poles around double your height. Somewhere between 11 and 12 feet. Good luck and thanks for watching my friend.

The third Teepee was the one I was going to build next weekend in Vermont! Looks fun, and if you have a big tarp, and a low fire in that third location in the teepee, you can stay quite warm in there with two people. I would gather a bunch of rocks and make a nice fire reflector to send more heat back at us and help protect the tarp a bit. Looks like a solid shelter that I could easily make. I could even be cheap and use a frisbee at the top connected to some flimsy green sticks to created a rain block so the teepee could stay dry and still vent smoke
@Reallybigmonkey16 жыл бұрын
Sounds good. Ive slept in a set up like this at least 3 times, maybe even 4 or 5 times with other people. Its great for cold weather camping where you can all stoke the fire and cook under a tarp.

Sounds good bro. Good question because the length of the pole is kinda misleading. When in the wild, you have no tape measure so I have always made them double my height and it worked out perfect. For me, thats close to 12 feet. It seems to work out good for the three hammocks. On a side note, I have chopped down trees that the tops were dead but still had greenery down low and it held up just fine. Take care and thanks for watching my friend.

I sure enjoy your vids, Dave. I am an old man and I cant get out there anymore, but I can almost still smell the woods and be there when I watch you. I’m so glad I found KZbin and your series. You are a much better woodsman than I ever was, but like you, I enjoyed ‘inventing’ a bunch of gear and we like the same stuff - nomex flight gloves and I have a little knife like your neck knife that was the best skinner ever made. I disassembled a bunch of deer and elk with it. Have you ever made a bent willow shelter/sweat lodge? That was my favorite quick tarp shelter - 8 or more willow switches set in a circle and bent and tied in the center. Keep filming, pardner.
@Reallybigmonkey18 жыл бұрын
+Richard Stephenson Thanks Richard, I'm glad you like all I do. Thats really cool you made a lot of your own gear. You know first hand thats half the fun! I havent made a full on sweat lodge, I have bent over saplings and tied the ends off and covered that with a tarp. Someone once told me that the sweat lodge wasnt meant to be a shelter but for more of a spiritual cleaning place by the native Americans so I never made one. I read the history on them once and the story is amazing. Take care and stay tuned my friend. Thanks for watching

It is a cool set up. Alot of folks think it wont hold much weight but, if you think about it, the tie off point for the hammock is between 2 and three feet off the ground. If it was higher up the log or tree, it may not be as strong. You are kinda low to the ground with this set up but, being off the ground is all that matters. Poles need to be around 12 feet. Camera guy does as best as he can. Hes only 14 years old. Good luck with the set up and Thanks for watching my friend.

I haven't slept on the ground without a bathtub setup sense I was twelve and watched another kid's tent wash out and float away during a torrential downpour, about eight inches of rain in two hours. I love camping in the Olympic Peninsula, the rain keeps the air cleaner. I've used a variation of the second teepee in maple thicket's dense enough to suspend the tarp underneath the primary frame and a second teepee of smaller trees allowed me to suspend my blanket-hammock inside the tarp. I was very comfortable waiting out a storm, even overnight. I love using the Tripod-Teepee but, how do you vent the smoke on it with the tarp over the center? This is another Fantastic video. Thank you both.
