I have a technical question. I have been teaching martial arts for years. What if the attacker locks that choke in military style with the second arm? The way we would with an RNC from the back?

Man…. That’s so much easier said than done it’s hardly worth suggesting. More importantly, don’t wear headphones out in public. Look around instead of at your phone screen. Be aware of your surroundings. That works a lot better. Anyone attacks you they have the element of surprise and have already sized you up. Take those advantages away. That will be of far greater value. You’re a BJJ clan, don’t mistake that for self defense, it’s a sport even if a combat sport. I’m from Brasil. These strategies are worthless in an environment with guns, knives and gangs. Awareness of surroundings is what needs to be taught.

@@person8834good luck being able to do that. I’m a man and I can’t reliably do that against a live opponent. It’s absurdly terrible advice. Juijitsu is awesome but that advice is not. In fact, that was not Juijitsu. Awareness of one’s surroundings is the best thing. Once you’re caught like that, unless you’re trained and ready, you’re in serious trouble.

You have an abundance of ignorance. 1)Renee Gracie has never been a professional fighter and never fought Sakuraba. 2)Professional fights have rules. 3) One fighter defeating another doesn’t invalidate a technique or a martial art. Instead of guessing that bjj “doesn’t work”, go try it out. That way, you will be informed and not so ignorant.

You have obviously never been put in a RNC. 6-10 seconds and you’re unconscious. There is no time to think, only to react. I carry and have been training Gracie JJ for 18 years. For the uninformed: Gracie JJ is most importantly a. self-defense martial art, while most BJJ schools focus primarily on the sport. That is an important distinction people seem to understand.

Let's be real here, if that guy was actively resisting none of these throws would work, because there's no way she could force him low enough to use leverage, plus he could easily pick her up off the ground; hard to do a throw when your feet are dangling 6 inches off the ground.

Grab the choking arm, drop the weight down make him carry 100 plus pound woman with the arm when he tries dragging … I don’t think he can go too far carrying the weight in that position. When he gets tired … here goes the escape. He may actively go crazy for a while… but holding a 100 plus pound woman when she drop the a weight down/forward isn’t that easy of a job for that long. Dropping her weight down or forward isn’t that hard for a woman … So he expends energy … she conserves it and then get to escape. That’s why the techniques are good.

You must move quick - you're not supposed to wait until the guy has a choke fully locked in. Once you notice the arm go around the neck, you have to drop your weight and move.
