Yes. The fact Volk was able to defend as much as he did despite a size difference is a statement to his ability. Islam’s skill is just on another level though. I hate we didn’t get to see Khabib face as much of a variety of stylistic matchups as we’ve seen from Islam so far. I am very excited for the future though. Would love to see him challenge at welterweight. Some really interesting potential grappling matchups there!

​@@martialbreakdowns bro one thing ur missing, makhachev was 2 pounds lighter here. He had 12 hrs less rehydration time so he was very weak going in the fight which favoured volk which volk himself earlier had said.

@BookBook-yw1kr Wait is the implication that Islam’s performance in the first fight was not good? I thought he looked great, Volkanovski was a world champion, close fights happen at that level. Dehydration is a risk of weight cutting. If high school wrestlers can cut 20-30lbs and weigh in multiple times while competing over a weekend, a world class fighter can handle a weigh in the day before. But again this whole video is praising Makhachev’s high level technique. I thought he looked fantastic.

Makhachev had 12 hrs less to rehydrate than usual, he had red eyes going into te cagem he looked 1 div samller than he was against olivera. And volk is former lhw, he isn't small either. The fact that makhachev still beat him in every aspect for arguably 4.5 rs, shows he is better than every onr

I agree with the first 2 but I still believe Khabib is a better wrestler, I think Khabib chain wrestleing is better and his ground control is better than Islam’s, but Islam’s setups are better than Khabib’s, also Khabib’s cardio is better than Islam’s so the pace he puts on you is overwhelming which makes Khabib and even more frightening wrestler than Islam imo.

It would depend on what you mean by better wrestler. I agree that Khabib had better ground control. However, the only times Khabib was really forced to chain wrestle (switching to a different attack when a skilled opponent defends) was against Johnson, Barboza, and Conor, all primarily strikers. Part of this is that Islam has faced better competition so far, it’s unfortunate Khabib retired before we got to see him defend the belt more. Also agree Khabib’s physical attributes (strength & endurance) are arguably better than Islam, but these things don’t equate to skill.
