As a 30yr police officer/detective and survival inst I always give this advice. Travel with a friend you trust. An underused feature on your cell phone is the emergency feature you can trigger by holding the side button down or press it a certain number of times, depending on brand, that automatically contacts who you want notified/police and your gps tracking, You should also have a legal self defense spike, blade, etc that is polymer and a force multiplier to fight an attacker and leave noticeable scars plus picks up dna. All my daughters (and very large sons) carry legal self defense instruments, knows cell functions and ALL know if something does not feel right to call and we will be there. The info in this short is also good. Never lose sight/control of your drink, if you do get another. Redundancy is good. Your cell may be taken from you so a personal locator is a must, a loud noise maker/whistle as your voice may be muffled or screaming finally reduces significantly where a whistle is LOUD with every breath. There is many more things you can learn from an experienced survival instructor-generally free advice for your safety as I do. ALSO if someone may seem to need help-call the police. If something seems wrong-it is wrong. We never mind coming to make sure you are safe.

It can be. Lots of shady characters show up at music festivals, some are bound to be out-and-out sociopaths or psychopaths who just want to cause misery and suffering without suffering repercussions for it. Went to an edm fest years back and some ahole went around spiking unattended drinks with GHB. Half a dozen overdosed before anyone knew what was happening, one person allegedly died. Never found the culprit. You'd have had to catch them in the act. Who can even say why they would do such a thing except a total lack of empathy and guilt.
