That is not where it was in the sun, it is where it was touching the ground, not getting light so the chlorophyll didn’t develop.. You want to get the one with the orange, or as close to orange, as possible. That means it spent longer in the field ripening.
@nicosfutureson44502 жыл бұрын
That doesn't mean much either the higher brix comes from not being watered good sun exposure is also key but if they get rained on before they are harvested they won't be as sweet.

All of the explanations for her tips make no sense. How does pollination cause scaring on a fruits surface? Pollination only needs to be successful once for a fruit to start developing. More pollination makes no difference in watermelon sweetness. Also sugar seeping out of a fruit would trigger pests and indicate rotting. If dark spots meant sugar was seeping out of the fruit, stay far away from it, that's a rotten fruit! Her tips may correlate with sweet watermelon but her explanations are bullshit.

The yellow patches are patches that didn't get any sunlight.to pick the perfect watermelon the smaller stem the better,the greener the better .the pattern also has has to be as balanced as possibly. If the watermelon is greener it means Its got more sunlight.
@hichizarai2 жыл бұрын
R u sure😅. Im so confuse now 😭
@pancake35532 жыл бұрын
@@hichizarai I'm 100% sure ! think of it why would the sweeter part be yellow? And not green ? Yellow means it didn't get any sunlight and the green gets the most sunlight so it will be green.
@user-yq9ld6ni7q2 жыл бұрын
@@hichizarai in theory it makes sense because the rate of photosynthesis would be low and lower chlorophyll which is used to trapped sunlight during photosynthesis. There’s no fool proof method, I’m pretty sure those cracks aren’t from pollination. They are most likely a result of scarring from being scratched against something in early growth but I take chem not bio so idk about the second one. I find the tapping method has been most effective and fun, but it’s an accumulation of experience as the the perfect balance between a hollow and ‘flat’ sound is different for every body
@angeliquerodriguez89312 жыл бұрын
When I pick a watermelon I do use some of these. I go for one with a big dark yellow spot, well defined light/dark green lines and one that sounds super hollow when I hit it. But I have never gotten one with a black/brown spot especially with the juice crystallized on the outside, that means something got into it or hit it and I don’t want more germs inside of my watermelon because watermelons don’t just leak without some sort of hole in it. The yellow spot has nothing to do with the sun though, that’s where that part of the watermelon was on the ground for a long time, was probably there longer than others allowing it to ripen more and become sweeter. I’ve also never heard of the “webbing” having anything to do with pollination… if the watermelon grew it was pollinated, has nothing to do with how many insects went to that flower before the fruit grew. Pollination happens waaay before the fruit even grows, so there’s no possible way you could ever tell how it was “pollinated” other than knowing it was because you’re eating the fruit.

This is better than knocking. Knocking on a good watermelon gives this weird low resistance sound, the vibrations moving through the water, you want the watery ones. She started picking up watermelons that I'd presumably touched and throwing them on the floor, going "well we can't sell THIS because you touched it...we can't sell THIS, or THIS..." She had to be physically removed by security.
