sugar baby are my best bet. i didn't learn that watermelon had sugar alcohols in them until this year, and that helped me understand why they were moving through me so quickly!

Can I purposely pick an unripe watermelon, store in fridge and eat it many days later until it is ripe? Or will it not ripe or doesn't taste as good since I chosen it unripe? (gonna buy many watermelons at a time and store some in fridge for later) also how long will a half cut watermelon last in fridge? thanjs

huh the sound you said was the lowest, sound the highest. The other one at the end sound a lot lower.

Excellent demonstration of sounds, well worth upvoting. I just have a question and would appreciate an answer. On the market, wouldn't the pitch of the sound also depend on the size of the melon? Namely, I would expect large melons to have a lower pitch, small ones higher.

My only watermelon got blossum end rot. I was so disappointed. The bottom turned brown and rotted off. Is it BER or something else? Any solutions?

Hmmmmm. Only tomatoes get 'blossom end rot' but if it's rotting, that most likely a nutrient deficiency. In the future, take photos and send them to me!! I love playing garden detective :)

@@FruitionSeeds Do you have an email? Because I'm about to research my melon problem. They've stopped growing, and the little baby two inch melons rot on the top where they connect. I read that melons are disease prone, and i gave them a small palmful of fertilizer three weeks ago. Should i dump a good heavy palmful every other week or so?

All I know is the watermelons you have there on the table, have not seen in years. In the markets the watermelons are all these small round things. Honestly I thought that the long melons I remember seeing when I was a kid had been lost through hybridization, especially once we were introduced to seedless melons. Nice video 🙏

a customer strained their back while picking up a huge melon and then sued the store. now, stores only purchase melons that weigh less than 20 pounds or so.

The only 100% sure fire way to know if a watermelon is ripe. Reach up with one finger and see if you can snap off the vine. The tendril is a good indicator but like you said they can turn brown before the watermelon is ripe. If you test the actual vine for dryness by seeing if it will snap off is the only real way to know if the melon is no long receiving nutrients. Trust me. You should never have to cut a watermelon vine.

I like this method. I've always had a similar approach to Citrus. I've noticed that when picking Citrus, they usually come right off when they are ripe(and then some drop to the ground). It seems some can be ripe and be a little more difficult, but they would probably come right off in a day or 2. It makes sense that other fruits are similar.
