Thanks for watching! Please note that this video shows a simplified theoretical example of how tax systems work. In reality, most progressive tax systems are designed in a way that the progressive tax rate only applies to the income within the bracket (i.e. Jane would pay 5% on the first $74,999, 10% on her income between $75,001 - $149,999, and 20% on all the income above $150,000). Thus, the example in the video is one of the simplest forms of a progressive tax system and is not intended to represent actual tax brackets in any country.

It is baffling how taxation systems have been inclining more towards proportional and progressive taxes, classifying regressive taxes as "unfair". How is it fair that people have to pay more of their money for the same public services and goods, the more income they have? Let's say there is a flat tax of 20% and John pays $10k in tax for $50k income vs Jane who pays $40k in taxes for $200k income, that means that Jane pays an extra $30k in taxes for THE SAME public services and goods. Why should Jane pay that extra $30k ? How is it fair to Jane? Why is Jane penalized on her income for being able to earn more? If we as citizens benefit in the same way (presumably) from the same services and goods, then way should we not pay the same amount of money?

That's not how tax brackets work. You are contributing to spreading misinformation with this video. You pay 5% on first 75k then 10% on income between 75k and 150k. So Jane would pay 3750 + 7500 + 10000 = 21 250, So her effective tax rate is 10,625 %. Please don't make videos on topics you don't know about. In no country does progressive tax work this way.

Thanks for your feedback. Please note that this is a simplified theoretical example to show how the three tax systems work. Starting from there, the example in the video is one of the simplest forms of a progressive tax system and not intended to represent actual tax brackets in any country.
