Crafting the Call

The Boston Red Sox were one strike away (multiple times!) from winning their first World Series since 1918, only to see it slip away on a wild pitch and bounce under Bill Buckner's glove. Vin Scully called it bizarre. But what did Ken Coleman call it on Red Sox radio, or Bob Murphy on Mets radio?
Josh Suchon and Jesse Goldberg-Strassler break down the calls of one of the unpredictable World Series finishes ever.

Huge thanks to Ryan LeFevre, who created the Crafting the Call logo.
Shout-out to Drew Stein for letting me borrow his 1986 WS Gm. 6 VHS over and over and over and over.

Great call by the Great Bob Murphy who always paint a great picture when he calls the game that's why he's a Hall Of Famer.

16:21 Coleman sounds incredulous but like a Red Sox fan knowing things are not going to work out. And then 18:27.

If Cosell had been in the booth he would have been blabbing like a motormouth about the curse before Buckner was halfway to the dugout! (Cosell's stepping on Keith Jackson during the 76 ALCS walk-off by Chambliss and Reggie's third homer in Game 6 of the 77 WS are classic examples of how you DON'T do it!)

Cosell demonstrated how much he knew about baseball every time he opened his mouth. Nothing.

Cosell might as well told Keith Jackson, "That's enough, Keith. I take it from here. You go back to your college football games".

@@rendragmedia at some point during the 1976 season either Jackson or Don Drysdale should have thrown Cosell out of a press box window head first.

Harry Coyle was the long-time NBC sports director for this broadcast. MLB ruined TV broadcasts of games by going with the money and CBS in early 90's.
