The third mic is also smoothening the stereo image a lot. You should try leaving it out of phase with the other 2 mics and boosting 1-2kHz on it. + using an omni mic for that instead. That should be placed exactly between the piano's back and the wall.

front panel removed, just the two mics was the way to go. Loved the separation, don't even think the third mic was necessary.

It will probably sound awesome! I love Tascam’s old stuff and their new stuff seems pretty good too. I just recently sold a Tascam M3500 but I’m buying it back. Luckily, the guy ran out of room for it because I really missed that sound. What Tascam are you using?

I prefer the sound of the first technique. I know that during the live concert the best sound is with the front panel removed, but not for recording. When I listen to the first technique recording, I have an impression of being inside the piano and that's great. What do you think about using Rode NT1 mics for that? I am asking, because I have these mics. I don't have an upright piano at home to try it now.
@fdschuler786311 ай бұрын
I haven't heard a Upright sound like this without EQ. I reckon there's a fair bit of processing going on here because the sound of the piano doesn't really change much with microphone positioning.

Are you choosing the good level of preamp you need by putting the LA2A meter selector on Output and checking the needle to be on +2 VU ?

Yes.

What are the best Pre-Amps for recording with a hybrid piano? I have the Apollo Twin (for Classical Music).
@JohnDoe-ls2ww Жыл бұрын
That upright looks like a Yamaha U1A. From what i’ve gathered, you can put mics in a toilet bowl next to the U1A and it will still sound like Heaven.

We got uncontrollable 200hz buildup and boxiness in the recording! Lets just cover that up with delays and a super bass heavy beat. lmfao

Hi guys, Anyone got any tips on having gain issues when micing these up and recording through logic? i've set them up just like this and have got phantom power on (using a Scarlett focusrite) but the signal comes through so quiet. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

Move them closer and/or up the gain on the mic pre.

You chose a very monotonous and repetitive song for this video. Put me to sleep. But good insights and effort overall.
@soulslip8 ай бұрын
I suppose if that’s what you want to focus on ok.... there’s literally millions of songs out there, who cares. I disagree with that opinion. Not all piano music needs to be mozart ir bach playing every note in a scale. I thought it sounded just fine
@jakubfigiel3197 Жыл бұрын
This piano sound really cheap. Muffled and flat. I am speaking about the instrument, not the recording.
