MEXICO CITY: A Mexican zoo is celebrating the first public outing of three treasured additions.
The three Bengal tiger cubs, one of which is a rare blue-eyed white tiger, were born late last year.
Zookeepers said the birth of the Bengal tiger triplets represented an important contribution to saving the animals from extinction.
According to the Attorney General for Environmental Protection (Profepa), for every 10,000 Bengal tiger births, only one emerges white. Profepa also said there are only about 250 white tigers in captivity.
Zoologist Jose Cruz said; "White tigers are rare. However, here is the Bengal tiger couple we have. The father is a white tiger and the mother comes from white tiger parents. The cubs are two months old and we have two females and a male and one female is white."
The triplets follow a strict diet, which includes breast-feeding and 22lb of mutton twice a week as well as fresh poultry.
