Getting back on the ice after recovering from illness/injuries is tough. A few months ago I caught a stomach flu (luckily I only missed one skating class). The first day I came back, my friends said I was using my willpower to skate, while my body was just a piece of flesh. So now I try keeping myself healthy to keep skating lmao.

Thank you so much! I took quite a few private lessons that season, so yeah, I did. It helps a lot and really makes a difference :)

Hi!!!! First of all, that’s lovely progress! I am working on many of the same things. I skated a bit over two years, but I had year round ice, so I think your progress is impressive. 😉 Anyway, we moved this summer, so I have only skated twice since that. 😭 It was at the same two summer rinks that you go to, so I’m hoping you may be able to tell me more about the winter rinks and getting coaching in the area?? I’d really appreciate it! I had tried to inquire at the rink I thought would be nearest when we made the move, but they had closed for the season, much to my surprise. I miss having a coach and regular ice time. I’d just begun axel and double loop before moving and so many other fun things. Now I worry about even maintaining most of my skills. Where will you compete? I only know about Oberstdorf and some more recreational competitions where I began skating, in Romania. I’d begun competing this winter, in the US, and would really like to continue. 😍 Thank you for sharing such a comprehensive progress video too. I enjoy seeing them. I need to sort through a vast number of clips and get back to posting progress videos myself. 😃

thank you so much, I am very happy you enjoyed my video :) the sorting through a vast number of clips is always indeed a challenge haha The thing is that the summer rink is not quite close to where I usually train. Not super far off but it takes me around two and a half hours to get there. Whereabouts do you live now? I generally train more around Mainz/Frankfurt area. Right now it doesn't look like I will compete unfortunately, but there are quite a few people in my club that will. There are a lot of smaller comps in Germany that offer adult categories, I think autumn cup in Dortmund or Türme Cup in Ravensburg are a few examples, or generally you can compete in regionals of your area towards the end of the season.

@@kelaex I’m between Gottingen and Hannover. I’m not sure what my best rink options will be. The only coach I’ve been recommended is one who works with adults, but she is in Hamburg. I emailed another, but he only responded the first time and is at the summer rink much too far, probably, at nearly three and a half hours each way. In the US it was over an hour in any direction to rinks for me, but it was an easier drive, not winding roads or city. The train seems quite unreliable so far too. I don’t know the ice schedules, where there is freestyle if any… it’s all a mystery. It was lucky to even find the summer rinks. They didn’t come up on Google maps when I searched. I only learned about the closer one to me when some skaters from Hannover gave me the location when we were chatting in Willingen. Anyway, I really hope to have a local coach and find a way for more ice time. I don’t even know how much to expect coaching to cost here. Prices for ice time and coaching in the US were much, much higher than in Romania.

@@ThatFigureSkaterZamboniGirl unfortunately I don't know much about ice rinks in that area. :/ Unfortunately, the infrastructure is basically non-existent when it comes to figure skating, especially for adults. Finding things on the internet is basically impossible. Both clubs that I was in I could only join because I got the necessary information through word of mouth at the rink - similarly like you discovered the summer rink. It's easiest to know someone who knows something. Instagram can be really helpful too. Freestyle sessions aren't really a regular thing afaik. There are a few rinks who offer "patch", as it's called here, in summer. If they are a regular thing in winter, it's locally organized and only for members of a certain club. I believe they have that in Frankfurt. Unfortunately, my club can't offer anything like that and the other club that I was at also didn't offer it. Rinks are sparse and most ice time is given to hockey clubs and then FS clubs. What remains is the public skate, which is where most figure adult skaters train outside of lessons. Pricing really depends on the coach, but generally it doesn't seem to be outrageous compared to the US. From what I've heard it's anywhere between 30€-60€ per 50 minutes which is a pretty average hourly salary for a freelancer. I think the bigger problem is the availability of everything.

@@kelaex thank you for your reply. That’s a bit discouraging, but I guess I will reach out to the coach in Hamburg for any help she can give and will talk to other skaters when I’m back at a rink. 🙁

@@ThatFigureSkaterZamboniGirl starting out with anyone is a good idea even though it may be inconvenient at first. But that coach will know other coaches and maybe you'll find a better solution soon. Also keep talking to other skaters in your area. Maybe I'm overly negative and there may be more opportunities in your area. :) so don't be discouraged. It is definitely harder than in the US but generally we do have a lovely community of adult ice skaters here. Also, feel free to ask whatever you need to know if you think I can help or if you just want to rant lol
