Yeah, magenta and green are opposite on the color wheel, so the green muted the magenta. I’d recommend undercoating with white in the future

With regards to the green-magenta transition: you're 100% correct that the grey comes from moving "through" the colour wheel, which causes the dingy midtone. The solution is to move "around" the wheel. So either green - blue - magenta, or green - yellow - magenta. I'd actually love to see what the yellow midtone would look like. :) I'm primarily a mini painter, and seeing your sculptures makes me wish I could paint one of them.

@radiationcow I just posted this!! It's cool to see the same advice in different ways from so many different places of skill and knowledge. I went with lilac for the midtone and into the green bc u can play with purples pretty adventuoursly with this colour palette. it's probably one of my fave soloutions to my least favourite colours. thanks for making your art! hope u have good times

You can control the blend between contrasting colors by making your own halfway color. Green into magenta blends to a muddy brown, but if you blend the magenta to a yellow or blue then blend that to green, it’ll look a lot nicer! I learned that from painting skies :)

“lilac” you’re not wrong about the gradient on the hair looking weird! n you’re not wrong about why either. gradients can be pretty much anything, but it’s a common concept in the illustration world that gradients between opposite colors (even if one is much darker/lighter than the other) will be “unpleasant”. the transition between two opposite colors looks muddy because of the way gradients work - they’re just fading together - the natural product of combining most opposite colors is muddy brown. “unpleasant gradients” definitely have their stylistic uses, but to make a “nice” looking gradient, add one or more transitional colors in between that blend better with the colors next to them. they don’t have to be prominent, just enough that it gets rid of the muddiness. for a transition from green to magenta, either yellow/light orange or blue would work, depending on if you want the general vibe to be warm or cool :)

I hate to be critical but... 1. There is allot of flaws in her skin texture. 2. The "Pink Flames"? I've never seen pink flames. Where's the orange and yellows? 3. Are her "Female" parts on fire or do they even exist? 4. I have to and will always say that green hair looks grose, like moldy hair. OK, sorry to be so blunt but I'm picky. Otherwise the sculpt looks very similure to a Slanesh demon from Warhammer Fantasy or Warhammer 40k. Good Job.

Lilac. I guess it's just my sleep-deprived and Warhammer 40K obsessed mind talking, but all I could think of was how much she looks like a particularly deranged Slaaneshi cultist, particularly with the color scheme and almost drunkenly ecstatic expression. Been drilling my way through your catalogue since seeing your rendition of Let Me Solo Her Art, and I have to say you've left me dumbstruck at the raw talent I've seen displayed thus far. I know these pieces are deeply personal to you, but I (and I'm sure many others in the community) would be willing pay through the nose to have access to even just a copy of your works. Is there any possibility that you'd be willing to open a store for 3D printed copies of your sculptures?

i think i know what went wrong with the flames, it has darker tones in the top of them instead of in the bottom, if we look in real life, flames tend to be red in the bottom and gets yellower in the top. Aside from that, i just binged your videos the past couple days and now im addicted to sculpting and might be starting sculpting because of this channel. the quality of the videos are honestly super amazing and very professional, i hope you keep doing videos for ever (even tho they take a lot of time to make because sculptulres ain't fast to do) Thanks for this, i love you art, Art.

Yo, you can use kneadable eraser instead of tape for masking details like that. Then with with the green hair id do a dull-bright-yellow under painting of the hair first and do transition with little yellow showing. Then get like two adjustable stand lights where you can move the lighting. All and all keep facing those flames. This is interesting work.

You probably wont see this comment and maybe it's too late. I don't sculpt but I paint so maybe what I say can help for the painting hair and fire: With the hair I would have recommended you spray it green and hand paint the tips purple with a very thin brush and make strokes of different lenghts. That way the green and purple wont mix into grey and the tips will have a bit of chaos. I would have also added a touch of dark green here and there at the roots of the hair and some strands to give it some volume. For the fire, the issue is the colour progression of the flames does not look natural. When you look at a candle flame you can see the bottom is black/blue then goes into a bit of brown in the center, then bright yellow around that, bright white for most of the flame and the edge is an orange . You started too light and made the top dark area (the orange) too large it just needs to be a thin layer. To create light you need to use darkness even though this seems counter intuitive. Good example of this is if you google "claire obscure painting". The paintings look like they have warm lighting because there is so much darkness in them. You should also not be afraid to add other colours. Like the flames you could use a cool dark purple on the edges and grey for the darkness on the bottom and in the deep of the edges around the faces and some flames. I hope I made sense. You are doing a wonderful job with your sculptures!

I can say that you cant go wrong as long as you're doing the coloring correctly when you blend colors together so its a matter of your own artistic choice, your taste and how you feel plus I thought the green and the magenta together looked amazing
@Lynn_Clifton
@Lynn_Clifton 7 ай бұрын
I don't sculpt or know what kind of paint you use, but I am an acrylic artist, so I can answer the dulling of the hair from my perspective. Colors that are complimentary on a color wheel will muddy when you mix them. Red and green are complementary, so the red in the magenta blends with the green and turns it dull/muddy. To fix/avoid this a layer of something neutral under the magenta and let it dry before adding the magenta. Black will make the magenta pop, white will make it look glowy, browns will show the distinction but keep the relative contrast between the two colors at a similar level. Hope this helps.

Hey Art! This one's incredible, the progress shows 100%. I paint often but couldn't think of a way to counteract the issue you had with hair, the colors were just harsh. I still believe theres gotta be an answer, so keep looking! As an amateur sculptor, I wondered if you have any tips on progress for making armatures, they've been giving me trouble. Thanks a ton, great work!
@ArtChongArt
@ArtChongArt Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I try to keep armatures super simple, because I highly value the ability to make changes late into the process. When you say trouble, I assume you're talking about getting clay to stick? Different clays have slightly different requirements, but usually it comes down to creating some kind of texture on the surface that the clay is more likely to stick to. If you let me know what clay you're using, I can answer in better detail.
@sacosta000
@sacosta000 Жыл бұрын
@@ArtChongArt luckily, getting the clay to stick isn’t my issue. I wrap the wires in floral wire and it works pretty well to give it something to stick to! I mainly get stuck trying to twist my wire together to make a shape I can mold a humanoid figure around, my armatures always end up being slightly wonky and stick out, sometimes showing up later on when I’m further in the process.

I think that you were right to envision the flames as vines on her body. Looking at the larger flames around her, I think they would have flowed just as well if not better as roots writhing out of the ground. She could have also been made into a pretty cool druid type character. excellent work.

Simply gorgeous! Considering the character's origin peeping through your commentary, I felt it entirely appropriate that the light of the flames would be coming from below and not above. Lilac! Great video and an even greater sculpture! I enjoy the backstories of the characters you make as well as more technical commentary, so I suppose do what feels most fun. As for the duller transitions, I think the magenta paint might be a slightly transparent and so is being desaturated by the complementary green underneath. Undercoating after the green with an opaque, lighter colour might help (an off white would be good; for a warmer magenta - a bright yellow -, or cooler - perhaps white). Doesn't detract from the end result in any case; some brilliant art.

I think i wouldve transitioned the green to magenta by instead going from the light green to a dark green then to magenta. Because you wanted the magenta to look like it was the fire reflecting onto the hair color, the dark green would be the core shadow that then would transition into the reflected light, the magenta :)! I think the hair looks beautiful as is but to me it reads more as an ombre instead of the magenta being reflected light. If you look at a shadow sphere your base color would be darkest before the transition to the other color! Hope this makes sense, it's hard to show without a visual reference HAHA

The sculpt is amazing, no doubt, you're capturing such details its unreal. You're so good at explaining that it is gonna give people the toxic trait of thinking" hmm i think I could do that" lol I think the paint job of the flames distracts / blends from the main pose. I think going along with the whole "souls" idea, a polluted green / blue for the "flames" would have gone better. On a different note, the original sculpt looks very "witch blade" inspired, ( think steel gauntlet meets Venom's symbiote" , and now I'd love to see you do a take on that lol.

Fantastic work, even more fantastic improvement! Thank you for sharing. I have some suggestions... The film light should be gelled yellow-orange. This has to do with the same "muddy" effect you saw moving pink to green - you want to move around the color wheel, not through it. The specific gel I would try first is Lee 162 - Bastard Amber. You should also try CL780 AS Golden Amber and CL20 Medium Amber - which have less red/pink in the gel. The key is to experiment. Don't be put off by the color of the gel, what matters is the light coming through the gel. There will be surprises, and - with any luck - happy accidents. I would experiment with the light itself. Maybe adding a snoot or trying a projector lamp. You could also try masking off the area outside the flames. Some cookie patterns might add life there. (On a film, I'd rig a gizmo to move the cookie during the take) You were concerned that the flames overwhelmed/obscured the sculpture. You can experiment with moving the flames further from the sculpture. Maybe mount the flames separately so you can move them in small increments - because I think you will only need small adjustments to achieve the effect you desire. If this was a CG model, I'd add translucence to the flames - which reduces their visual weight. Another suggestion ... for next time. If she is spinning counterclockwise ... the base of the flames should be spinning clockwise, and then just the top should be turned by her motion towards counter clockwise. This adds dynamism, and suggests she is interacting with or controlling the flames. Like the flames had an initial velocity, and her movement changed it. Hope that was not too much. Fantastic work again! Will look for more of your stuff.

Would love to hear the story. Is it just me or did you forget the drop of blood from the blade??? Beautiful job sculping it all. Amazing. I agree with you the flames take away from how amazing she looks. I HAVE THE ANSWER TO THE DINGY HAIR TRANSITION PAINTING QUESTION! I went through a huge makeup and eyeshadow looks hobby phase and I learned the correct way, through many tutorials, how to transition any eyeshadow color to any other color without it looking dull and ruining the look. You have to actually look at the color wheel and pick a color that's in between the two colors you're using. In this case, it would be yellow. You blend your green into that yellow and you blend your magenta into that yellow, and all you will really see is a beautiful transition because you're not making a muddy color where the green and magenta touch. Use this any time you want to blend two colors that are opposite on the color wheel.

So, first off, you did great. I like your form and the way you twist the body to emphasize the revelry. Very nicely done. I do wanna mention a thing. The eyebrows. I don't think they express pure joy, looks to be more of a like "AAAAAAAH MUST LICK FINGER SWORD" kind of expression. Happy sure, but directed a little differently than I'd imagine. Aside from my personal nick pick that the eyebrows aren't broken up like individual strands of hair I think they should be evened out and raised. I think the same thing for the mouth although having the mouth open like that makes it a bit harder to actually form a smile so I think you did the best option. You could've went more anime with it and just gave her a really big mouth cause anime. But all in all, you did a great job.

I don't know what your visions were.... but from the beginning of this video only I have been visualising as a character somewhat like... goddess kali you know... and yeah... Lilac... If you were not aware, I wanted to let you know that NORTH OF THE BORDER shouted out your channel on his community tab earlier today. I checked out your channel from that. You are very talented.

Great sculpt! Found you through a suggestion after a Dr. Garuda Video You hooked me up with the overall sculpt but at 23:40 I was fully into the game and had to subscribe! You used music from hollow knight, which fitted so damn well to this sculpt!

Can’t wait for this channel to blow up! This guy is freaking awesome and genuine. Love this channel! I do have a question though, how did you like working with bee’s putty ? I sculpt a lot with super Sculpey, would you say it’s comparable or better?

Lilac. But it looks like I'm only one of a few, LOL. I went looking for a link to bees putty in case you had an affiliate link. I also check here for tools used info, usually. Hope that feedback helps. I enjoyed seeing how far you progressed in just 3 years. Really enjoying your back catalogue and your artwork.

I’m. It sure if you covered this before, but what type of oven do you have? Is it specially for this clay or standard cooking oven?

I like everything about it, and your progress is very good. Well done IMHO. Two small things are missing that I expected, some blood dripping off the talon and maybe some satin or gloss varnish on the hair, eyes, mouth to further enhance realism.

Hey! new to your channel. I am also a sculptor and painter! stay with me here are check out a video by Zumikito Miniatures titled What Is The Best Paint Brand for Warhammer? and jumpy to minute 11:43 even though he is working on mins, there is an excellent example of painted on light emitting from a gluing mushroom. I think this is very similar to the effect you were going for? Either way it helped me a lot! keep up the amazing work! I would love to know where you studied sculpture and would love to see a "how to" with some anatomy! Cheers! lilac!

Lilac. Yes I read it, especially on videos like these because a lot of people list the materials they used and stuff. Really cool sculpt, love the character design. Not sure about the green hair, I feel like it probably should have just been pink and white too. I get why you wanted a contrast and used a complementary color like color theory would suggest, but I don't think the theory worked to your advantage here. Lilac as a contrast might have worked, but I honestly think making her hair just an extension of the flames would have worked best, that's why you shaped it like that to begin with after all. Amazing skills though, the attention to detail really paid off, it's pretty much a perfect sculpt.

Lilac Maybe you can refer to the character Mitsuri from Demon Slayer as her hair color actually look similar. By the way, the sculpting look amazing !!!

Thank you for this. She's gorgeous. Channels like yours make me want to try my hand at sculpting. I've no training, no schooling, but I'm going to jump in and see what I can do. It kills me that I can't finish watching this now. I'll definitely come back to it after work.
