Rivets are possible. I used a hole punch and 6mm rivets. A bit fiddly. I destroyed a few. I finally pounded them flat on my table because they were slipping sideways on the base. I don't have a press. Just leave the zipper 1/2 inch from the bottom of the tab.

Thank you for the very thorough video instructions. 2 questions. 1). Where do you purchase your zippers in pull tabs? 2). I just made one of these bags and followed your video. I did 1/4” seam allowance and I ended up with about 3 inches of extra fabric for the front piece after my pockets were sewn. Did you use a different seem allowance? I’d like to repeat the bag, but this time I’d like it to be the full size. Thanks.

Could the handles be webbing rather than zipper. Cut zipper long enough so the bag can lay pretty flat and attach webbing like zipper ends then riveting might work. Haven’t made one but just thinking it might save some of the cost of zippers. Probably won’t work cause I haven’t tried the pattern yet. Thanks for the great tutorial.
@simplyclassic Жыл бұрын
That is a great thought! That might work, especially if you give it enough space to get into. It really doesn’t have to lay flat. Might have to try this out!!

Could you explain or point me in a direction to find out which bag design and why when topstitching across the zipper seam, sometimes you separate the outer and inner layer when topstitching. I am new to bag making and wonder if it’s a personal thing . Thank you for these instructions! You are easy to follow.
@simplyclassic2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kathy, Thank you for watching! Usually when I am doing a pouch or pouch style bag I will topstitch the face fabric only, pulling the lining in the other direction. The reason for this is to get a better corner when you turn the bag. Otherwise you will get those squared off corners that don’t turn well. The tutorial on The Diana is an example of that. Thank you!
@traceytowner1763 жыл бұрын
Fabulous instruction Chris! Where do you buy your binding? On the main body pieces it looked like sf101, but you said fusible fleece? What kind/thickness do you use? Also, what length stitching do you use usually use for the construction and your top stitching on your industrial on most projects? I really like the length of the stitching on your binding. Many thanks!!
@simplyclassic3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Tracey! I got the binding from Amazon. They have lots of different colors. The main body is fusible fleece. Actually, it can be quilted it you want. That is a great look. As far as ether thickness, hmmmm, not sure. I just buy from JoAnne’s because I don’t use it that often. So it is a Pelion product, and not very lofty. On my Consew, I use 6 1/2 to topstitch. Usually 5 1/2 to join seams. The Techsew is a 3 to topstitch. Thanks for watching!!
@traceytowner1763 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I sew on a fairly new Juki 1541 and use about 3.5 to join seams and maybe around a 4 to top stitch even keep it the same at 3.5. I will try going up a little.

The easiest way to do that is going to be to mutliply all of the measurements by the amount you want to increase the pattern. For instance, if you want to try it 20% larger, and the size of the main panel is 8 x 16 (I am not sure what it is, I don't recall off the top of my head), then you will multiply both of those numbers by 1.2. So the panel will be 9.6 x 19.2. I round to the nearest quarter inch so in this case, it will be 9.5 x 19.25. I hope that helps, post a photo in the Simply Classic Inspiration Facebook Group when you are done. I would love to see it! Let me know if you need help with anything else, Chris

I do think that is a great idea and probably a must if you are going to use a rivet. Cotton just won’t hold up. I am still just not sure how to attach it to the bottom of the bag because you would have to rivet it to the binding. So I wonder if there is a way to add the leather tab in the bottom seam of the pouch, and then add a leather tab to the end of the zipper, then rivet them together???
