Three 6 Mafia, otherwise known as Triple 6 or da Mafia, is an iconic, GRAMMY award winning, American hip hop group from Memphis, Tennessee. The group's membership varied from album to album, the constant duo being Juicy J and DJ Paul. Other members included Gangsta Boo, Crunchy Black, Lord Infamous, and Koopsta Knicca. Since beginning their career in 1991, the group achieved worldwide fame with their distinctive style of Memphis crunk, characterized by choppy, shouted lyrics and drum machine beats. They’re most known for their classic hits such as “Stay Fly,” “Tear Da Club Up,” and “It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp” (featuring Frayser Boy), which earned them the 2006 Oscar for Best Original Song. My friend was sitting across the classroom, next to a girl who was presenting the solution to a calc problem from her desk. I caught my friend's eye, held up my notebook, and flipped page by page. It cracked him up and both the girl and the teacher thought he was laughing at her presentation, and no one saw me with the notebook because everyone was paying attention to her. It may be a boring story, but it's a fond memory I have from many years ago about an old friend who isn't around anymore.
