The Whitefield Project for the Arts and Culture presents Season 02 Episode 03 of ‘The Engineer’s Pick’. This episode features a garland of four flowers - four compositions in four languages, collectively called as ‘Threshold’; and performed by noted singers MD Pallavi and Bindhu Malini. Today’s episode is a shortened version of a near 90 minute production of the same name by the same duo.
‘Threshold’ is a musical conversation between the artistes. The production celebrates the journeys of women across continents and across generations through the stories of Hypatia, Agnodice, Kharbaoucha, Fanny Mendelson and the songs of Lalla, Lingamma, Neelamma, Goggavva, Sule Sunkkavva, Nina Simon and Meera. MD Pallavi and Bindhu Malini weave together a journey of the woman; their soulful voices are accentuated by the melodious accompaniments of the harmonium, flute, kazoo, swarmandal, udukkai, bells, ghungroo, shakers, kartal, melodica, rainmaker and the banjo. Where and when available, we encourage you to see the full production.
Thank you for the resounding reception for Episodes 01 and 02; we really have been overwhelmed by your love. ‘Threshold’ premieres TODAY (18 March 2021) on KZbin at 12 noon. Do share widely; nothing can be more helpful to artistes than receiving appreciation for their arts.
Curated and produced by sound engineer and artiste Anish Ponnanna, The Engineer’s Pick is a curation of Indian compositions in Indian languages sung and performed by Indian musicians. The compositions are delivered in a raw and minimalistic style, with extraordinary attention to the sound detail. Where possible, emerging artistes are discovered and featured on the channel.
