In case anyone misses it: At 3:29 the coffin lid is closed, and the listener is lowered into the earth.. followed by the sounds of shovels and dirt being thrown onto the lid to bury them.

guys, you gotta listen (and react) to "the alchemy index" in its entirety. it's such a musical trip, so beautiful. one of my favorite things a band has ever made.

@@curtiswilson3569 Of course, brother! If you haven't already, pledge to their Patreon, while it won't guarantee they'll do your songs, they definitely deserve the support. I'll always be putting in for Thrice and I appreciate your offer to help out. If you have the free cash flow, then I'd definitely suggest putting in a request yourself to make sure they cover your favorites. In the meantime, I'm working through it lol. Take it easy, man, and stay safe!

Thank you so much again, this has been awesome! There's an interesting triple entendre in the second stanza; "Uprooted flowers and filled their holes with blood; ask not for whom they toll the solemn bells." It can be taken as your own death partaking in our violence or it can be taken as the bells tolling for our Mother Earth. Alternatively, it's an accusation that you have wasted the time you had been given and the solemn bells are tolling for your soul. Instead of seeing your mother in the Earth and giving alms to her, you chose to abuse her energy for war, saturate her blood with waste, fill her lungs with gases, and defile her body for cattle and kingdom. It's the epitome of all our capital vices and as such your soul is marked for death. "Their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.” Revelations 21:8 Typing it out, I realized how reminiscent our way of life is to the story of Oedipus, who upon finding that he had murdered his father and defiled his own mother, considered himself as low as a blind beast and his children cursed for their blood and their very existence, and begged for his own exile. For us, we've killed God, defiled Earth, and reduced ourselves to the mere fruit of causation and chemical impulse, cursing our youth for every mistake of their ancestors, and lastly, trying to leave it all behind and send our death-bringing hands to another planet. That was a little darker than I intended when I started typing... lol Anyways, all the world is mad, so God bless you both and your family, and stay safe!

They'll get to enjoy more. TWOG in a few weeks, one of my favorites and I know it was the first on your list lol I just heard it for the first time recently during their Vheissu 15th-anniversary tour, I didn't know they released any b-sides for Vheissu. I've been missing out.
@Darrkness
@Darrkness 4 жыл бұрын
So my first b-side was Lullaby. I had rented Burnout Revenge for PS2 like in 05 or 06 and heard Dustin singing and was like, "how is there a Thrice song I never heard before?" I saw Thrice for the original Vheissu tour but I never thought they play them live. I was very fortunate to see them again this year for the 15th anniversary Vheissu tour too.

@@Darrkness You know, you just made me remember that's exactly where I heard Thrice. That's why I went and bought Vheissu, but since it wasn't on there I completely forgot about it. I had the craziest feeling of nostalgia for the very beginning when I heard it live in Feb but I thought it was just one of those familiar sounds.

In case you guys are wondering, the final lines in this song were recorded while they literally buried their microphone. Meant to sonically portray a person being lowered into their grave as they are buried with dirt.

I wrote a comment about a triple entendre in the second verse in this comment section earlier. If you like interpretation, there's a bunch there for you. But yes, this band is essentially made of symbology so hearing different interpretations of their music is very interesting and often inspirational.

These were all pretty strange to listen to by themselves. It's taking very small parts from the whole album. Really need to listen to the whole albums (which are pretty short) for these to make sense as a whole. This song is the outro of the album and earth section. Silver wings was the outro of the air section.

I think it's the case with many albums though. The messages of these songs I think are contained enough to understand without the rest, despite how good the rest of it is.
@bryanfoster7684

Not really. All 4 of these songs are related. They are all done in the same style of progression, and while using different chords, still follow the same chord progression. They all are album closers, and they all are written from the perspective of the element itself.

I'm not sure if anyone has said this yet, sorry if they have, but the all four final songs on each disc gives a voice to the element from that disc. It's so incredibly beautiful and artistic, and it pains me that this album does not get the recognition it deserves.

I'd really like to see you guys react to the cover of Strange Fruit by Oceans of Slumber. First, you guys haven't reacted to Oceans of Slumber at all that I'm aware of and that's a crime within itself. Second, it's extremely topical and I would like to hear your discussion about it. The fact that that song is still relevant or was ever relevant to begin with is an atrocity.

I already put this on your last song but I just saw this one so I thought I’d place it again. Check out (1970’s Australia punk band) Radio Birdman’s song, Aloha Steve and Danno. One, because it’s a great song. It’s about watching, the original, Hawaii Five-O. And two, it’s lead singer, Deniz Tek... I’m sure you know the movie, Top Gun. The character Ice Man, played by Val Kilmer, is named after Deniz Tek, i.e., he’s the real person, who they got the name/call sign from him. After the band and medical school, Tek became a Navy flight (F4 Phantoms) surgeon with the US Marine Corps. While he was at the actual Top Gun school so was the film crew for the movie. They liked him and his call sign. The rest is history.

@sopwithsnoopy8779 4 жыл бұрын
Hopefully not for a long time. The Warning arent all that great, no disrespect intended to them. Sure, the are good 'for being kids', but that doesnt mean they are good compared to established bands. I get it, they are yoing. And I wish them the best and hope they continue improving both songwriting and playing-wise. But right now? No...
@bramilan
@bramilan 4 жыл бұрын
@@sopwithsnoopy8779 I do not agree with you. Are they at Led Zeppelin, GNR or Pink Floyd level? Well, of course not. Not even close. But do you really think they are less good than Greta Van Fleet? Than young stars like Angelina Jordan? Lately, Vin and Sori have reacted to a song called Seelenland by Nagelfar. While I do understand it was a Patreon request, they liked it. I know this is not the same genre, but do you really think that The Warning are not better than that or at least at the same level? I'm talking about the album versions. I think they are. To my opinion, while still being far away from being one of the best actual rock bands in the planet, I think they have long time away past the "for being kids" level or tag. Of course, no hard feelings, everyone with his or her opinion. I just disagree with you about that.
