The alchemy index was such a fantastic concept. 4 discs (back when we bought cds lol) each for a different element, each its own style, and each powerful in their own way. I love that you guys are doing Thrice. Also, Vin, love the history lesson. Love your reactions!

Yeah. The Alchemy Index is such a good listen. Do you have a favorite among the 4? Seeing them listen to this again makes me want to go back and listen to them again. Just in case there's something I missed or forgot. Plus my tastes and ability to appreciate music have changed a lot since I last listened to the albums.
@ayotrippin4 жыл бұрын
@@samseison They're all amazing in their own rite, but The Flame Deluge might be my favorite of the four for its sound. The haunting nature of the warped triumphant anthem in the background is too good.

Samson Aken'Ova I love Water and Earth, cant really decide between the four which is my favorite, each disk has a few that stay on my playlists, but Water I think gets played most for me.
@zsoltsandor38144 жыл бұрын
I really loved the idea that the last songs for each element are sung from the perspective of the element, like how we humans have been using the power of fire to destroy, raw or condensed into bombs, while fire is the "element of the gods", meant to enlighten us, literally and figuratively.

If no one has said it yet, each ending song from the four albums is a Sonnet (like Shakespeare poems, written in Iambic pentameter of stressed/unstressed syllables of exact length for each line). They are all different keys, but have same chord relationships. Written from the perspective of the elements and how man has come to use/abuse/take them for granted.

My man is woke to the beauty of them! What you just said is exactly why I requested them all together. That, and they're so different in their sound that the juxtaposition of hearing them together shows the band's range perfectly.

I think I've been following Thrice since Vheissu. Not just some post hardcore/emo band, a cut above in my opinion. I think "Doublespeak" would be a good song for today's climate.
@ayotrippin4 жыл бұрын
@@ChaseVonnegut Definitely a cut above, brother. I've been on since Vheissu too, I must have been 10-ish then, it wasn't until the last few years that I actually paid the attention due to their music. One of the best groups today, in my opinion.

Oh hey, those are my videos. Thanks for using them for the reactions. Glad you guys enjoyed Thrice. A lot of people sleep on them, but they're amazing. Also if you didn't know, the last tracks on each of the elemental albums are from the point of view and personification of each element. They are all also a sonnet. So for "The Flame Deluge", it's fire talking. and for "Kings Upon the Main" it's water talking.
@ayotrippin4 жыл бұрын
Hey, man, I put in the request for these. I'd love to see more of these lyrics videos if you get around to it. Earth, Vheissu, and Beggars deserve some good lyric videos lol. I appreciate what you do, brother! Much love, God bless.

Awesome reaction! I always appreciate it, guys. Sorry if the two-in-one was a bit chaotic, but I guess it's well-fitting for the themes lol The chaotic sound of the first one takes from the casual listening experience for sure, but I believe the impact of the message is much harder for its sound. As Sori said, the vocals sound harsh like a roaring and uncontrollable fire, the dissonant sirens echoing throughout the song, and the distorted and warped warlike anthem playing in the background really captures and reveals war for what it is. Hell. Also, I heard Vin mention the atomic bomb off-hand and I wanted to draw attention to the namesake verse of The Flame Deluge, as it's referring to the atomic bomb and the nuclear deterrent; "So I hid among the smallest things; you found me there and ferried me above. The flame deluge is waiting in the wings, the smallest thread holds back the second flood." Thanks again, I can't wait for the next two! As always, God bless!

Great point about Dresden. If you want to learn a little more about Guernica, Garrett from Silent Planet wrote a song about it - Northern Fires (Guernica) - and speaks quite eloquently about how he believes it was a turning point for how modern societies war. Definitely worth a look.

Was this the first time listening to Thrice and any of their songs? The Flame Deluge is only small part of Dustin's lyrical genius. One of the best song writers of the past 15 years. And also song is about the bomb. Two perspectives being told within it. Very powerful stuff indeed!

I follow because I love your reactions. I really love Thrice. A Digital Sea is one on these albums that will maybe peak your interest. It’s funny I would consider myself an atheist but Vin should definitely teach religion. I’ve listened and learnt more relatability to the teachings in 3 short videos than I did in years of curriculum. It may not have changed my mind as of yet, but if everyone approached expressing their love and faith this way we’d probably not be where we are today. Stay safe 😊

I saw that too, I think it may have been the two songs in one video, it's off format and was probably a bit chaotic to try and address it all in one go. Or maybe it's because they just had a video claimed while they were filming the intro.

Very interesting two choices from these albums. I’m a huge fan of Thrice and I wouldn’t necessarily ever pick these two songs for a reaction. Both very difficult to stay focused on. You have to be ready for lyric reading. Not too much musicality in them to me. More like essays

All four of the ending pieces are sonnets in the same fashion. They're not songs you'd listen to regularly but as stand-alone art pieces or the whole as a piece in itself... Well, unless you're like me and suffer the format for the meaning, though I've grown to love the format and sound of them.
