The song brings the experience of a Christian when they’re raised, and the words of God being the absolute guidance of life. That when God grants salvation to the individual they have a change of heart and they go through a journey (learn about God and what he wants from his creations) that we need a savior without knowing it, that we think we can do good deeds to justify ourselves before God but there’s nothing we can present before God.

@@nicholasoneill8836 You can hear doubt about his Christianity starting to leak through during "Hurricane", "my faith feels like a fistful of sand". (claiming that he's clutching at things he's starting to feel slipping through his hand) And by Palms, Dustin's interpretation of the Bible, his faith and salvation had changed drastically. He's now what you would call a "Universalist". C.S. Lewis has some interesting quotes about such beliefs.

Thrice has had such a major impact on me throughout my early teen years to the present day today. I still listen to them daily. Even thought I’m an atheist I’ve read the Bible several times just because I think it’s so interesting and it’s such a big part of how our world got to where it is now. Even if you hate religion itself(as I do) you have to acknowledge how big of an impact this single book has had on our civilization, both positive and negative. Great song and great video/reaction. Keep up the good work guys!

Huh? Only about 35 percent of the world is Christian today and it's only existed for about two thousand years. You realize civilizations have existed for thousands of years before that, probably quite more, right? There really is no good that has come from it. Look at the dark ages, the shit going on in America, especially in the south.

Dustin strikes again! More Thrice! This band is criminally underrated. 6:51 makes me cry every single time I hear it. Treading Paper, Listen Through Me, and Disarmed are also amazing songs of this same record (Major Minor) that all have to do with Jesus and the Bible.
@ayotrippin

Loved the reaction, as always! Thanks, guys! I think the beauty of this song is that, while it's clearly referring to the Bible, you could attach any literary piece and figure to it and it would still sing the same song. There have been many heavy books in my life, some were the lightest books I've ever held. Nietzsche had said, once, something to the effect of, "It is my ambition to say in ten sentences what others say in a whole book." He accomplished that many times over, as well as Aurelius, Jung, Lewis, Gibran, Peterson, among others, and, especially, the authors of many sacred texts from across the world. Can't wait for more! Much love, stay safe, and God bless!

Such a hauntingly beautiful song. More people need to know Thrice. Christ fulfilled the Law, and it's the Law that was heavy. The words were beautiful and dread because if you read the Old Testament there's nourishment in the Word but the dread is that you cannot live up to the demands of the Law. Trying to be righteous enough to earn salvation is is an exercise in futility. He was literally drowning under the weight of the Law, but then someone took that weight from him and freed him from the curse of sin and death.

What Vin said about Moses is my view on almost everyone in the Bible. Everyone was flawed and I agree that when people completely praise Moses or King David it’s a mistake. They both did really bad things. However, most people at my church act like they were perfect. They weren’t. Their stories are great examples of God being with you even though your not close to being perfect. Like Vin had a issue with Moses mine was always with Paul. I always looked at him as someone who basically was a great philosopher. Most of the things he said reminded me of Greek philosophy. He was Greek educated and it makes sense to me that most of his writings are based on that. That’s just the way I view it. Like hey you don’t need a woman, but if you can’t stop yourself from being with them you should marry one. This keeps your problems and issues to a minimum. Seems very philosophical. We create all our issues that blind us from fully focusing on God. The more you have sex with someone the more issues you can possibly create. Basics no?

For rarely will someone die for a just person-though for a good person perhaps someone might even dare to die. But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us!
